FCPT. KIRK [monitor]: Andorian Ambassador Shras informed me that their colony was having issues with the geothermal reactor, and seeing how it was Starfleet that broker a cease-fire with the Vulcans and Andorians in the 22nd century I feel that it should be a Starfleet vessel that assists them in this situation
CPT. BRANSON: Yes, sir we'll get it done.
FCPT. KIRK [monitor]: Keep me posted Kirk out
[TRANSMISSION ENDS] As Captain Branson stands in front of the briefing table.

LCDR. T'LAR: During the 1950s of your Earth's history my people encountered the Andorians my people were suspicious of them, we went to war several times, mostly over territory or the Andorians were basically not logical. Paan Mokar a class-D moon was colonized by the Andorians they refused to allow the Vulcans to inspect the colony. We had to remove them.
ENS. MITCHELL: And by remove you mean forcibly by the Vulcans.
LCDR. T'LAR: That is correct Mister Mitchell.
Captain Branson sits at the front of the table as he's listening in as well as the rest of the senior officers.
LCDR. WILLIAMS: A class-D moon that's barely habitable why would your people and the Andorians wanted to fight over that?
LCDR. T'LAR: The planet provided a strategic position between the Vulcan-Andorian border.
LCDR. IVANOVA: President Archer of the NX-01 Enterprise broker a cease-fire between the two forces that handed the planet over to the Andorians.
Captain Branson faces the senior officers.
CPT. BRANSON: We've been ordered to assist them in repairs of the geothermal reactor.
LCDR. WILLIAMS: I've been able to look over the schematics of the reactor it matches the same designs as a 22nd century warp reactor but I believe that me and my team can repair it.

CPT. TOWE: That's a combat situation not this.
CPT. BRANSON: With whatever is watching us from the distances makes it a combat situation.
CPT. TOWE: John, this could improve our relations with the Andorians and you're shutting it down?
CPT. BRANSON: After what happened to Ensign Collins yes.

VADM. HALSEY [monitor]: John, made the right call on this one Captain with the strange blip that he reported to us a few seconds ago. I don't blame him for that
CPT. TOWE: Admiral? You can't be serious? That blip is just outside the system you think that its a threat?
RADM. TUCKER [monitor]: Captain Branson acted well within Starfleet regulations Captain
FCPT. KIRK [monitor]: He did what I would of done if I was there because it was too great a risk to attempt an early restart of the geothermal reactor
FADM. BARNES [monitor]: Oh please, you people are blind by what is going on here we have a chance to redeem ourselves to the Andorians, and now we have three Andorian warships watching us
ADM. OZAWA [monitor]: Mike, John has the authority to make that choice you know that and besides his ship was there first while the Harrison was suppose to be on her shakedown cruise
ADM. HEBERT [monitor]: I felt like that we needed experts on this mission not people who never encountered a geothermal reactor before
ADM. HALSEY [monitor]: You'll have our answer within the hour Captain till then do nothing Halsey out

JAMIE: I'm not sure maybe he did act well within Starfleet regulations but he's not in the right mind.
Kyle sits on the couch.
KYLE: I've gone over the data for a few hours I can't figure out what caused the overload that killed Ensign Collins.
Jamie walks over to him and looks at the PADD.
JAMIE [re: PADD]: You'll figure it out Kyle but come on let's get some rest.
She leads him to the bedroom area.

[READY ROOM DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As Kyle enters without ringing the door bell.
KYLE [frustrated]: What the hell were you thinking?
John puts the PADD on his desk.
JOHN: Kyle, I--.
KYLE [frustration]: WHO PUT YOU IN CHARGE OF THIS MISSION! THE CREW OF THE HARRISON ARE MORE THEN CAPABLE OF COMPLETING THIS MISSION! BUT YOU'RE JUDGING YOUR DECISION BASED ON REPORTS FROM INEXPERIENCE ENGINEERS THAT NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS!
JOHN: KYLE SIT DOWN!
Kyle sits in the chair in front of the desk.
JOHN: If I was any other Captain you'd be thrown into the brig for insubornation but you're my friend and you deserve an explanation as to why I made that choice.
Both John and Kyle calm down.
JOHN: Jim, gave me command authority after detecting the strange blip and plus the death of Ensign Collins. I felt like it was best that we take a step back and asset the situation.
KYLE: Jamie told me about the blip but its not even identified as a vessel or a probe so its not a threat.
JOHN: We have no idea what it is and I made the tactical choice to suspend the tests I'm not risking anymore lives based upon your data.
Kyle stands up.
KYLE: So you're going by the data of a starship chief engineer?
JOHN: I trust Commander Williams and her team Kyle and right now you need to as well.
Kyle EXITS the ready room as John is worried that Kyle is too determined.
EXT. WEY'TAHN SYSTEM, WEY'TAHN ORBIT [OPTICAL]

CPT. BRANSON: Admiral Barnes what can I do for you sir?
FADM. BARNES [viewer]: Captain, it came to my knowledge that you've suspended all further tests of the geothermal reactor.
CPT. BRANSON: Yes, sir. After the death of Ensign Collins I didn't want Captain Towe to risk her engineering team any further then they already were at risk.
FADM. BARNES [viewer]: I don't want to hear any excuses Captain
CPT. BRANSON [confused]: Excuses? Sir? I was giving you my report on why I made the choice that I made I was well within Starfleet regulations.
FADM. BARNES [viewer]: The Harrison's in charge of this mission you had no right to take that away from them, you will allow them to reactivate the geothermal reactor that's an order
CPT. BRANSON [frustrated]: Yes, sir.
[TRANSMISSION ENDS] As Captain Branson's frustrated that he was taken off the mission again as he walks to the command well.
CPT. BRANSON: Julia, hail the Harrison and inform her that she can beam down her engineering team.
LTJG. SMITH: Aye, sir.
Lieutenant Smith taps commands into the communication console.
LCDR. IVANOVA: What's Admiral Barnes's issue?
CPT. BRANSON [sighs]: I'm not sure Z. But something doesn't feel right I'll be on the surface you've got the bridge.

ENS. GUILLERMO: We're almost ready to begin the start up sequence.
Commander Clarkson sees John.
LCDR. CLARKSON: Well, it seems that your engineering team did a find job with re-calibrating the EPS conduits that they installed.
Commander Clarkson walks to the main console.
CPT. BRANSON: Let's get this over with.
LCDR. CLARKSON: Yes, sir.
Commander Clarkson taps commands into the main console.

LTJG. FLOWER: Power output is at 40% and rising.
LCDR. CLARKSON: [confidently]: Okay, this is good. My equations are working like a charm.
Captain Branson wearing protective glasses and looks at the power surging in the main chamber.
CPT. BRANSON: I suggest that we stop at 80% power.
LCDR. CLARKSON: Sorry John but I'm going to 100% power like last time.
CPT. BRANSON: Mister Tarak where at we at?
Lieutenant Tarak taps commands into the console.
LT. TARAK: We're at 79% sir.
CPT. BRANSON: Yeah, shut it down at that power output we're leaving before it gets too bad.

CPT. TOWE: Yes we did and for that I am sorry that we had to come to take this mission from you and your crew.
CPT. BRANSON: All is forgiven Jamie.
John walks over to Kyle who's looking out of the windows at Wey'tahn.
JOHN: You did a great job Kyle.
Kyle looks over at him.
KYLE: Even if I raised my voice at you?
JOHN: Even if you had to raise your voice at me.
[BOOM!] As everyone's a bit confused.
JOHN: What was that?
KYLE: Felt like a gravitational shift.
[BOOM!] As everyone braces themselves.
[COM CHIRPS] As Commander T'Lar comes over the com.
LCDR. T'LAR [com voice]: Bridge to Captain Branson
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Branson here go ahead T'Lar?
LCDR. T'LAR [com voice]: Sensors have detected a gravitational shift within the planets magnetic core
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: We're on our way.

AMBASSADOR SHRAS: Admiral, this is a dark day for my people.
Admiral Halsey looks at the Andorian Ambassador.
ADM. HALSEY: Ambassador, we're very sorry for this tragic loss of life but you do have survivors from this aboard the Starbase we've dispatched both the Dominion and Antyllus to take the survivors to other Andorian and Federation colony worlds.
AMBASSADOR SHRAS: The families of the colonists on Andor are demanding that whoever is responsible for this needs to be punished Admiral.
FADM. BARNES: And he will be Ambassador I assure you.
Both Towe and Branson are shocked at that as Ambassador Shras EXITS the briefing room.
CPT. TOWE: Admiral, Mister Clarkson was aboard the Harrison when this happened.
CPT. BRANSON: I agree with Captain Towe on this sir.
FADM. BARNES: We have to keep the Andorians as a founding member of the Federation they are our most trusted ally should the Klingons or Romulans invade the Federation we'll need them.
CPT. BRANSON: So punishing Commander Clarkson is the way to go about it?
FADM. BARNES: Its either we punish him or we lose the Andorians.
Admiral Barnes gets up from the chair and EXITS the briefing room as both John and Jamie look at each other.
INT. HEARING ROOM, STARFLEET COMMAND
Kyle is standing in the middle of the briefing table as Fleet Admiral Barnes, Vice Admiral Halsey, and Admiral Ozawa are present.

CPT. BRANSON [confused]: What are you talking about?
LT. ALLAN: We've been ordered not to let anyone not a high ranking officer.
CPT. BRANSON: My rank is Captain that should be high enough Lieutenant.
ENS. WELL: I'm sorry sir we have our orders.
CPT. BRANSON: Who's orders?
LT. ALLAN: Fleet Admiral Barnes.
Then Captain Kirk shows up.
FCPT. KIRK: John?
John turns to face him.
CPT. BRANSON: Jim, what's going on they told me that Kyle's trial is classified?
FCPT. KIRK [sotto]: John, now isn't a good time for this we have to play this by hand and right now you're not making it look good for yourself.
John paces about.
CPT. BRANSON [sighs]: Fine.
John walks away as Kirk watches knowing that John wanted to defend his friend.
INT. HEARING ROOM, STARFLEET COMMAND
At the table Admiral Ozawa picks up the PADD.
ADM. OZAWA [re: PADD]: According to the report is that the geothermal reactor was operating at 89% power?
LCDR. CLARKSON: Yes, ma'am. Captain Branson wanted to stop there to avoid an overload from the first test of the startup routine.
VADM. HALSEY [re: PADD]: How did it overload then if it was at 89% power?
LCDR. CLARKSON: I'm not sure sir but I'd like to find out and set things right with the Andorians.
Admiral Barnes cuts in.
FADM. BARNES [frustrated]: This is pointless we should just get this over with Lieutenant Commander Kyle Clarkson, you've been found guilty of murdering 1,209 Andorian colonists. You are hereby stripped of rank and dishonorably discharged court adjourned.

CPT. BRANSON: I'm frustrated about it sir why did they dishonorably discharge him he didn't do anything wrong?
ADM. APRIL [monitor]: Fleet Admiral Barnes didn't want to lose the Andorians as a major ally they helped us with our phaser technology during the war with the Klingons
CPT. BRANSON: So we just screw over an innocent man to keep an ally that we need for weapons and shields?
ADM. APRIL [monitor]: I know how you feel John but we can't afford to lose the Andorians should the Klingons or Romulans decide to attack us separately or form a full alliance to attack us in full force
Captain Branson stands there in front of the briefing table.
CPT. BRANSON: So we condemn an innocent man sir?
ADM. APRIL [monitor]: I'll see if I can get more information on it for now focus on your ship and crew April out
[TRANSMISSION ENDS] As Captain Branson stands there.
[READY ROOM DOORS CHIMED] As John walks to the desk.

She punched him again.
JAMIE: KYLE'S YOUR FRIEND! AND YOU ABANDONED HIM!
JOHN: Jamie, let me explain I tried to get into the hearing but they wouldn't let me they said that only high ranking officials were allowed in the hearing.
Jamie calms down a bit.
JAMIE: What are we gonna do?
JOHN: I'm not sure Jamie but whatever we do we better act fast before he's unable to regain his career forever.
