ARMED FORCE
Andorian Guard
Service patch
AG service patch, a stylized Andorii letter

The Andorian Guard was a branch of the Federation Starfleet. The Guard was responsible for defense and maintained its own fleet of starships. Its chief, Admiral Thy'lek Shran, was one of the five chiefs of staff of the nascent Starfleet. The insignia was a stylized letter in Andorii, of the Andorian languages.

History[]

The Andorian Guard became a branch of Starfleet following the founding of the United Federation of Planets in the year 2161. The Guard inherited its staff and assets from the Andorian Imperial Guard that defended an independent Andorian Empire. Guard personnel adopted the Starfleet uniform, set apart from other branches by the Guard insignia. Ships adopted the "USS" prefix but carried the "AGC" registry prefix.

By 2162, the Andorian chief of staff was Admiral Thy'lek Shran (Hravishran th'Zoarhi). He participated in meetings with the Federation President, Thomas Vanderbilt.

In March-April 2163, the Andorian Guard supplied ships to an interstellar task force determined to end the piracy of the "Mutes" (Vertians). Commodore Nisverin th'Menchal commanded the task force's flagship, USS Vinakthen.

Following the admission of the United Rigel Worlds and Colonies to the Federation in 2164, Guard ships battled piracy in the Kandari sector. USS Vol'Rala was one of the ships taking part in that effort. At the time, Andorians and Arkenites of Andorian nationality served in the fleet, and other species, like Humans, made their foray onto Guard vessels.

In 2165, the Ware task force consisted of one UESPA starship, the USS Pioneer, and several Andorian Guard vessels, including Vol'Rala. Their actions led to the obliteration of the Ware, and the dissolution of the Partnership of Civilizations.

In 2247, the USS Eagle was launched in cooperation between Starfleet and the Andorian Imperial Guard. The ship was refitted to fit Andorian physical standards.

On stardate 7101.6 (2270), the USS Enterprise's main computer was more combative after undergoing an upgrade at Starbase 17, operated by the Andorian Engineering Corps. The AEG maintained the old Imperial rivalry with the Tellarites, which led to a standoff between the Enterprise and a Tellarite cruiser.
