The Coloma class is a technologically advanced type of starship utilised by Ni'var and Starfleet during the late 32nd century.
History[]
Due to the extensive need for heavy mining operations on Theta Zeta and Starfleet's lack of capable freighters. The Federation requested that Ni'Var design a new class that would be used exclusively for mining the Dilithium planet.
The Coloma-class was the result. It soon went into production and at least one saw action during the middle of 3190.
Technical data[]
Life support[]
- Oxygen generators
- Inertia dampeners
- Gravity plating
- Heat shield
- Radiation shield
- Structural integrity field
- Replicators
Tactical[]
- Tractor beam: It features multiple tractor beam emitters that projects beams of attenuated gravity outward thus allowing the manipulation of a objects trajectory, either to attract or repel.
Weapon systems[]
Disruptors[]
The Coloma class is armed with multiple disruptor bank arrays that cause damage to matter through exciting the molecular bonds of targets to such great extents that those bonds are weakened, and/or broken, by the energies emitted, which often manifest as explosive force. Particle composition of Coloma class disruptors were phased antiprotons, the antimatter counterpart of a regular proton.
Defensive systems[]
Vessels of this class boasted a high-capacity deflector shield grid to protect itself from various threats, such as impacts from bolides and debris, various space-related and stellar phenomena as well as hostile weaponry. The deflectors are comprised out of multi-layered energetic distortion containing a high concentration of graviton particles and are equipped with multi-spectrum, metaphasic, metaphysic, and temporal shielding technology. Additionally, the magnetic harmonic resonance is self-modulating therefore making it harder to determine the static frequency of the shield perimeter. Due to Federation influences, the class utilises mercassium in their generators.
Stealth systems[]
- Cloak screen: The class is equipped with a highly advanced cloaking device that was proclaimed "perfect." It emitted no tachyons and left no residual anti-protons, the two ways that a cloaked ship could be tracked and located. Thus, when cloaked, a Coloma class ship could not be located besides from verified users from Starfleet command via a built in beacon operating on a classified and secure subspace frequency.
Propulsion[]
Miscellaneous engineering data[]
The warp core of this class was constructed of over 200 elements, and had no need for magnetic confinement due to special fuel injection processes. It also emitted omicron radiation during its operation, which is extremely rare and can only be created by certain forms of matter-antimatter reactions.
FTL[]
Warp[]
Coloma class starships possess a standard annular warp drive that functions through running highly energised plasma through the unique composition of the warp coils thereby creating a subspace field ie; a discrete bubble of subspace is temporarily merged into normal space around the exterior of the craft. To explain the phenomena, under normal circumstances subspace and normal space do not interact, but the high amount of energy and the unique properties of the warp coils contained in the hoop-shaped field generators allow a "blending" of the dimensions, surrounding the ship in the aforementioned subspace field. By manipulating the way plasma is moved through the warp coils, they alter the nature of the subspace field, such as causing it to move in a specific direction therefore actually accelerating the subspace "bubble" to faster-than-light velocities without violating laws of relativity as the ship contained within the field is technically stationary.
The maximum velocity is Warp Factor 9.9995 which is 53,254.35 times the speed of light or 10 light years/every 1.65 hours. While the cruising speed is Warp Factor 8.9975 which is 1,514.98 times the speed of light or around 10 light years/per 57.86 hours (2.4108333 days).
Sub-light[]
These vessels can travel through space at sub-light speeds via nuclear fusion engines in which the plasma from the fusion reactor powers a massive magnetic coil to propel the ship. It is a form of a magnetohydrodynamic drive called the Hyper-Impulse engine that is capable of propelling the ship at speeds just under .75 percent/the speed of light.
This magnetic system also utilizes the Space-Time Driver Coil to operate effectively at sub-light speeds which produce a non-propulsive symmetrical subspace field that helps the ship to accelerate, decelerate, and maneuver by effectively lowering it's apparent mass.
Energy generation[]
The ship class utilises Romulan designed singularity drives that provides power by utilizing the rotational movement of a microscopic quantum singularity, which is 29 percent efficient by orders of magnitude greater than a nuclear reactor, and more than four times as efficient as Earth's own Sun.
Dilithium is used in the engine to regulate the absorption of the Hawking radiation and other energies released from the singularity including gamma radiation and a Zero-Point Energy Conduit converts it into a form compatible with Coloma class power systems.
It utilises a series of impulse reactors, fueled by deuterium, which operates through a nuclear fusion process to produce energised plasma that is then distributed to secondary systems using a plasma conduit managed EPS grid instead of polaric conduits.
Other[]
The class can haul a maximum of 120,000 metric tonnes of ore - spread in loads of 30,000 tonnes stored in cargo modules at the rear.
