The Danube class is a technologically advanced type of runabout utilised by Starfleet during the 25th century.
Danube class was designed as a small, short-range interstellar type with assignments in short-term defense and/or assault, humanitarian aid, research, and transport.
History[]
Technical data[]
Propulsion[]
FTL[]
The class is equipped with a class 4 warp drive based on Alcubierre concept that works by compressing space-time around the exterior thus allowing the ships to traverse distances in faster than light velocities.
- The maximum warp speed is warp factor 5.7 while cruising speed is factor 2
Sub-light[]
Danube class vessels can travel through space at sub-light speeds via nuclear fusion engines in which the plasma from the fusion reactor powers a massive magnetic coil to propel the ship. It is a form of magnetohydrodynamic or magnetoplasmadynamic thrusters.
Life support[]
- Gravity plating
- Inertia dampeners
- Heat shield
- Radiation shield
- Oxygen generators
- Structural integrity field reinforcement system
Tactical[]
- Tractor beam emitters: Danube class runabouts are equipped with two tractor beam generators; one forward and one rear. These project a beam of attenuated gravity outward at a target thus allowing the manipulation of its trajectory.
Weapon systems[]
- Phaser arrays: The class is primarily armed with four arrays of phaser emitters that fire a sustained beam of nadion radiation particle at a target.
- Torpedo launchers: It is secondly armed with two micro-torpedo launch banks that shoot out self-propelled torpedoes each equipped with a photon warhead. The complement is 10-12.
Defensive systems[]
- Deflector shields: For protection, the class employs sophisticated forcefield armor comprised out of energetic distortion infused with gravitons. This facilitates the absorption of energy discharge and kinetic impacts.
Design[]
Ideally, a runabout was piloted by two crewmembers, although one pilot would suffice. The pilots' consoles faced forward upon two large portholes. The cockpit had stations for up to four crewmembers. The two large portholes were equipped with retractable forcefield blast shutters. Small square view screens mounted within the forward corners of the cabin were used for video communication and ship status displays.
The rear of the craft could be configured as a passenger cabins complete with sleeping and dining areas for extended travel. This area could also be used as a cargo bay.
In the center of the craft, between the two wing pylons, a series of replaceable modules could be connected. These modules could be swapped to suit mission requirements. Examples of available modules included science laboratories, crew quarters, and photon torpedo bays.
Also carried aboard runabouts were medkits, covariant oscillators, communications probes, portable generators, and a stasis chamber.
Trivia[]
- Runabouts are among the most common type of starships seen in the 24th and 25th centuries.
