Defense of New Athos is the 5th episode of Star Trek: Andromeda Andromeda Season 1.

Synopsis[]

The Andromeda and AR-1 head to Athos to defend it against a possible attack by Queen Death and her forces, but soon learn that it was a ruse as they're trying to figure out what happened until a Wraith Dart captured Doctor Rodney McKay.

Prologue[]

The Andromeda travels at impulse speed.

In the armory AR-1 is disarming as they're distraught about what happened on Athos.

In the ready room Captain Hunt sits behind his desk as he's checking the causality list and sees Rodney's file and lists him as Missing in Action/presumed Killed in Action.

1 hour earlier

At Starbase Atlantis the Andromeda is next to the starbase.

In his lab Rodney is working on the data that was gathered on the Vanir during Andromeda's encounter with them, as Colonel Sheppard enters.

You said you got something? Colonel Sheppard asked as he looks at him.

He looks at him.

The Andromeda was able to gather a lot of information on the Vanir cruiser they encountered and it matched the same ones that we encountered during the Attero device situation Doctor McKay says as he looks at Sheppard.

Colonel Sheppard looks at him.

The com chirps.

AR-1 report to the ops center Chuck says over the com.

Both Sheppard and Rodney exits the science lab.

At ops Teyla and Ronon are present as both Sheppard and McKay enter.

What's up? Colonel Sheppard says as he looks at General Carter and Captain Kira.

General Carter turns to him.

We've received a transmission from Todd he gave us the intel on Queen Death's next attack New Athos General Carter says as she looks at Sheppard and McKay.

Chapter 1[]

In the briefing room everyone is gathered.

New Athos? Captain Hunt says as he looks at them.

General Carter looks at him.

Yes General Carter says as she looks at him.

Captain Hunt looks at her.

I'm sorry Sam but are you sure this intel is accurate? this is coming from a Wraith that nearly killed Colonel Sheppard and had a crazy first officer who nearly prepared Earth for culling if memory serves and nearly rammed the Daedalus into the Janus outpost Captain Hunt says as he looks at her.

General Carter looks at him.

Granted Todd hasn't been the most trusting Wraith but he has been helpful in the past he did help us beat the Asuran Replicators and find out about the breeding outpost and gave us the intel on the Super-Hive but I do understand where you're coming from Dylan General Carter says as she looks at him.

Captain Kira shares Dylan's worry.

We'll proceed to New Athos to assist the Teyla's people Captain Hunt says as he looks General Carter.

A slipstream portal opens and the Andromeda emerges from it approaches the planet where the Athosians have been living since they were driven off their world by the Wraith.

On the surface Major Lorne and his team have started preparing the Athosians to evacuate their camp to head back to Atlantis, as AR-1 shows up.

Major report? Colonel Sheppard asked as he looks at Lorne.

Major Lorne walks up to Sheppard.

So, far they're preparing to evacuate to Atlantis but a few don't want to leave Major Lorne says as he looks at them.

Rodney looks at him.

Even after being captured by Michael? Doctor McKay says as he looks at him.

Lorne shrugs his shoulders.

Well, the Andromeda is in orbit right now Colonel Sheppard says as he looks at Lorne.

Then Teyla chimes in.

I'll speak to the Athosian Council to see if we can convince them that they need to evacuate from the camp Teyla says as she looks at them.

Then Sheppard sees Jinto who's now a teenager.

Jinto, wow you've grown Colonel Sheppard says as he looks at him.

Jinto smiles.

Yeah, and my father has been allowing me to join him on trade missions to your Federation worlds especially in the Milky Way Galaxy Jinto says as he looks at the team.

Typhuss looks at Jinto.

In orbit of the planet the Andromeda is in a delta V orbit.

On the bridge Captain Hunt stands at the Captain's station.

How long until the evacuation is complete Colonel? Captain Hunt asked as he looks at the screen.

On the screen shows an image of Colonel Sheppard from the MALP that Atlantis sent.

We're starting the evacuation now it should take about two to three hours sir Colonel Sheppard says on the screen.

Colonel, we should hurry if Queen Death gets wind of this we'll have a fight on our hands Captain Hunt says as he looks at the screen.

We're moving as fast as we can Captain we should be done with the first batch soon Sheppard out Colonel Sheppard says on the screen.

The transmission ends as Captain Hunt turns to Rommie.

Rommie, launch sensors drones program them to search for Wraith hyperspace events Captain Hunt says as he looks at her.

Aye, sir Commander Rommie says as she taps commands into the science console.

The top of Andromeda opens as sensors drones fly out of the bay.

On the bridge Commander Lochley looks over at him.

Do you think that we can handle Queen Death's forces Commander Lochley asked as she looks at him.

Dylan looks at her.

I hope so Captain Hunt says as he's worried.

In an unknown sector of the Pegasus Galaxy a piece of debris floats as Queen Death's fleet destroys a Wraith cruiser that was trying to flee from the site of battle.

Aboard her flagship in her chamber Ashes enters and bows before her.

My Queen we've received word from one of our spies Colonel Sheppard and his team are on New Athos Ashes says as he's bowing before her and not making eye contact with her.

Death looks at him.

And our target? Queen Death says as she looks at him.

He's still not making eye contact with her.

Our target is also there Ashes says as he's still bowing.

Death smirks.

Set course for New Athos our target awaits Queen Death says as she looks at him.

He nods and quickly exits her chamber as Death feeds on another victim as that victim let's out a scream of pain as Death roars as she feels the life force enter her body.

Chapter 2[]

On the surface AR-1 and Major Lorne's team are evacuating the Athosians one group at a time through the Stargate.

In the tent with the council Teyla speaks with them.

As you can see we are trying to help you evacuate to the safety of the city Teyla says as she looks at them.

Kanaan looks at Teyla.

Teyla we understand but thanks to the Wraith the Federation allied with we've not seen or heard from the Wraith since then and we highly doubt they'd attack us Kannan says as he looks at Teyla.

Teyla looks at him and tries to convince him that Queen Death won't follow treaty.

Kanaan do you really think that Queen Death will abide by the agreement we made with Todd's Wraith Alliance to leave New Athos alone? Teyla asked as she looks at him.

Kanaan looks at her.

In the village Jinto gives the team a tour of the village as Typhuss is amazed at how much they've improved the camp since they returned after their capture by the Wraith/Human hybrid Michael Kenmore.

I'm impressed Colonel Sheppard says as he looks at Jinto.

Typhuss looks at Jinto and asked him about the Wraith if they've attacked.

Have the Wraith attacked? asked Typhuss as he looks at Jinto.

He looks at him.

No not after they decided to leave us alone but we've been preparing for their return if that should happen Jinto says as he looks at them.

He shows them the recently built armory that has Starfleet weaponry like the type 1 and 2 hand phasers the type 3 phaser rifles and several tactical vests.

Teyla is outside of the hut that the Council is in as Typhuss walks over to her after the tour that Jinto gave them.

I thought I could get through them especially Kanaan but it seems that they're not budging that the Wraith won't attack them Teyla says as she looks at Typhuss.

Typhuss looks at her.

Somehow I don't think that the council believes that Queen Death will attack them Teyla says as she and Typhuss are walking through the settlement.

Typhuss turns to Teyla and offers her words of encouragement.

Stay positive Typhuss says as he looks at Teyla.

She smiles at him.

Thanks Teyla says as she looks at him.

Typhuss enters the council hut as Kanaan is there.

Is there something you wanna say to me Captain Kira? Kanaan asked as he turns to face him.

Typhuss looks at him and tries to convince him that Queen Death doesn't care.

Queen Death doesn't care she will attack this planet, don't come crying to me for help when the Wraith attack Typhuss says as he looks at Kanaan.

Kanaan looks at him.

Is that a threat that you'll leave us? Kanaan asked as he looks at him.

Typhuss looks at him.

No, I am trying to get you to open your eyes it's not safe here and the Wraith will attack Typhuss says as he looks at Kanaan.

Meanwhile at Starbase Atlantis in the operations center Zelenka motions General Carter to where he's at.

What is it Radek? General Carter says as she looks at him.

He looks at her.

Our long range sensors have detected a taskforce of Wraith ships 12 cruisers, 3 Hive ships Doctor Zelenka says as he looks at her.

General Carter looks at him.

What's their course? General Carter says as she looks at him.

He looks at her.

New Athos Zelenka says as he looks at her.

General Carter is shocked.

Chapter 3[]

The Andromeda is in orbit of New Athos.

On the command deck Captain Hunt walks to the Captain's station.

We're receiving you General Captain Hunt says as he looks at the screen.

General Carter informs Captain Hunt of the ruse.

Dylan, its a trick the intel on the attack of New Athos was a ruse General Carter says on the screen.

But the transmission fizzes out.

Andromeda report? Captain Hunt asked as he stands at the station.

Something is jamming our long range com system holo-Rommie says as she looks at him.

On the screen it shows a hyperspace window opening and the Wraith taskforce shows up.

BATTLE STATIONS! Captain Hunt shouts.

Klaxons blare as the crew heads to their battle stations.

On the surface the Stargate activates.

INCOMING WORMHOLE! Major Lorne shouts as he and his men ready their P90 phaser rifles.

The wormhole forms as Wraith Dart emerges from the gate.

Colonel we've got a single Dart heading towards your location now! Major Lorne says as he speaks into the com.

Outside the village Colonel Sheppard has his P90 phaser rifle ready.

We're ready here Major get your men and those villagers to the Andromeda Colonel Sheppard says as he speaks into the com.

They hear the sound of a Wraith Dart approaching.

HERE IT COMES! Ronon shouts as he has his particle magnum ready.

Both Sheppard and Ronon fire their weapons at the Dart as it dodges their weapons fire as they dodged the transporter beam of the Dart.

In the village Typhuss and Teyla are getting the rest to the trees where the Dart's transporter beam won't be able to get through as they see Wraith soldiers approaching them as they fire their stunners as Typhuss fires his P90 phaser rifle at them as two are taken down by the barrage from his weapon.

In orbit the Andromeda fires her AP cannons at the attacking Wraith fleet as a cruiser erupts in a fiery explosion.

On the bridge the crew braces themselves under the fire of the Wraith hive ship's energy blots.

Forward shields are down to 85% Lieutenant Mason says as he looks at the tactical console.

Mister Mitchell evasive pattern Omega Captain Hunt says as he looks at him.

Lieutenant Mitchell taps commands into the helm station.

The Andromeda moves to port as she continues to fire her AP cannons and pulse phaser cannons at the attacking Wraith vessels as their fighters are dogfighting with the Wraith darts.

In the cockpit of the lead fighter Colonel Devereaux gives her orders.

Baker 5 and 6 intercept those fighters approaching the Andromeda Colonel Devereaux says into the com.

Copy lead fighter pilot says over the com.

Acknowledged lead fighter pilot says over com.

Meanwhile the USS George Hammond travels at warp.

On the bridge Major Marks reports.

General detecting weapons fire in orbit of New Athos its the Andromeda and three Wraith Hive ships apparently the cruiser had already been destroyed by the Andromeda Major Marks says as he gives his report.

General Carter sits in the Captain's chair.

Prepare to drop us out of warp Major red alert all hands battle stations shields to full power! General Carter says as she gives orders.

Klaxons blare as the crew heads to their battle stations.

In the port and starboard 302 bays the fighter pilots gear up and head to their fighters to get ready to launch.

In sickbay Doctor Keller who tagged along prepares the medical area for incoming wounded officers.

Chapter 4[]

On the surface AR-1 and Major Lorne's team are defending the evacuating Athosian colonists as they head to the woods to keep from being beamed away by the attacking Darts as the F-302 fighters from the Andromeda are dogfighting the Darts that are planet side.

Keep them moving! Colonel Sheppard shouts as he fires his P90 phaser rifle at the attacking Darts.

A transport beam moves over him but he's not beamed away as he's confused but continues to attack the attacking darts, Rodney fires his P90 phaser rifle helping Typhuss defend the fleeing Athosian colonists, as Sheppard sees a Wraith Dart heading towards Rodney as he calls to Rodney to warn him.

RODNEY! Colonel Sheppard shouts to him.

The rest of AR-1 turns to see what's going on McKay turns to see the dart but its too late he's beamed by the dart and it heads back up to the Stargate.

In the cockpit of Baker lead Colonel Devereaux sees the dart.

This is Baker lead callsign Angel I've got one dart in my sight and ready to splash it before it reaches the gate Colonel Devereaux says into the com.

Colonel Sheppard tapped his combadge.

This is Colonel Sheppard to Baker lead hold your fire a member of my team has been beamed aboard that dart, I repeat do not fire at that dart Colonel Sheppard says into the com.

In the cockpit Colonel Devereaux moves her finger away from the trigger on her joystick.

Near the gate Major Lorne and his team sees the dart and aim their weapons at it.

Colonel the dart has just dialed the gate Major Lorne says into the com.

Don't fire at the dart McKay has been beamed into the dart, look at the symbols and burn them into your mind Major Colonel Sheppard says over the com.

Major Lorne looks at the DHD as the dart enters the gate and it shuts down.

In orbit the remaining Wraith forces enter hyperspace.

On the command deck Commander Rommie reports.

The remaining Wraith forces have entered hyperspace they are leaving the system Commander Rommie says as she looks at her console.

The Puddle Jumper heads to Andromeda.

Outside launch bay 23 Captain Hunt walks for them.

What the hell happened down there Colonel? Captain Hunt asked as he looks at Sheppard and AR-1.

Colonel Sheppard confused.

I'm not sure a Dart was on approach we defended the village but it wasn't the target it was Rodney he was the target Colonel Sheppard says as he looks at Captain Hunt.
