Service history and disposition[]
The basic design and specifications of the Dreadnought vessels is quite similar to that of contemporary Decatur-class cruisers and earlier Federation-class dreadnoughts. (ST comic: "Who's Who in Star Trek, Issue 2")
- This ship appeared only as a drawing in a comic book appearance, although the design was lifted from the unlicensed Starship Design: Interstellar Forum for Naval Power and other publications, where it was sometimes referred to as the Ascension-class. The various fan fiction publications provide much more detailed specifications than the approximations noted here. These approximate specifications are based on the vessels' use of Constitution-class components, which have known measurements in licensed publications.
- While it may seem odd that a ship and ship class are named after their general type, this name in particular is an homage to the origin of the term "dreadnought", the HMS Dreadnought, which was a class prototype as well. Presumably, this starship class would be led by a prototype USS Dreadnought, but no such vessel was ever mentioned.
