Goa'uld shields refer to shielding technology used by the Goa'uld. Their shields saw a number of uses, affording spaceships, bases, individuals, and other assets protection against a wide range of weaponry. At the height of the Goa'uld Empire, the shield technology of the Goa'uld provided them a level of superiority unrivaled by most races in the Milky Way, though Goa'uld shields continue to be far weaker than those developed by the Ancients and Asgard.

The shields developed by the Goa'uld generally possess a distinctive orange color. When erected around a craft, the shield forms the traditional 'bubble' shape, which is characteristic of the spacecraft shields utilized by most races.

Personal defense shield[]

The shield projected by a Kara Kesh

"...The personal defence shields the Goa'uld use; The ones which allow slower moving objects to pass through. Wouldn't make a very effective trap now, would they?"
— Aris Boch

The Kara Kesh possesses the capability of projecting a localized shield around the user of the device, often used by Goa'uld as a personal defense shield. This shield is able to repel fire from a number of weapons, including the Goa'uld staff weapon and Zat'nik'tel, in addition to the P90 phaser rifle and all other Federation based weapons. (SG1: "The Nox", "Double Jeopardy", "Deadman Switch", "Chimera")

The shield's deflection capability is directly proportional to the amount of kinetic energy being directed at it. Thus, a bullet moving at high velocity will be repelled by the shield, but a much slower-moving projectile, such as a dart, will successfully penetrate it. (SG1: "Chimera")

Additionally, this allows the user of the shield to catch objects that are thrown to them while the shield is active. (SG1: "The Nox")

Solar radiation shield[]

On planets with atmospheres that are unsuited to protect their inhabitants from ultraviolet radiation, the solar radiation shield was intended as a temporary measure to protect the planet's population until the Goa'uld could begin reshaping the atmosphere through terraforming. The shield consisted of two identical portable stations with each possessing an activation device. An input device was also included that allowed the user to alter the shields settings. To use the device, the stations needed to be placed no more than 30 miles from one another and no less than 10 miles close to each other. When activated, the shields generated an orange force field stream between the two stations in a hemispherical pattern. (SG1: "The First Commandment")

Ships[]

Tel'tak[]

While the standard model of the Tel'tak possesses no shields natively, shields are often added as a modification. However, these shields generally offer only minimal protection.

Ha'tak[]

"Without shields, Ba'al's ship won't be able to withstand anything."
Paul Emerson

The shields of Ha'tak can withstand extended fire from other Ha'tak vessels as well the radiation and heat of the corona of a blue giant for up to nine hours. A Naquadah-enhanced Mark 12A Minuteman warhead had no apparent affect.

Anubis' Ha'tak had upgraded shields that could withstand weapons fire from Asgard Bilskirnir-class ship without taking any damage. However, it is unknown exactly how effective the shields would be against the more advanced O'Neill-class ships, as the armaments are considerably upgraded from the Bilskirnir. These shields are incapable of resisting Ancient drone weapons. Ha'taks, with or without upgraded shields and weapons, are nothing more than cannon fodder for the primary weapon on a Ori warship. Even the secondary weapon rips a Ha'tak apart in no more than a handful of shots. (SG1: "The Serpent's Lair", "Enemies", "Lost City, Part 2", "Camelot")

Anubis' mothership[]

Main article: Anubis' mothership

Anubis' mothership boasted a powerful energy-shield capable of protecting the vessel from even the intense bombardment of an entire Goa'uld fleet. Weapons fire that struck the shield resulted in an orange energy field extending across the craft protecting the hull from damage. However, when in the atmosphere of a planet, the shield strength was reduced to only 40% effectiveness. It was this weakness that eventually lead to the destruction of the first ship at the hands of a fleet of Goa'uld ships in orbit of Langara. (SG1: "Homecoming")

The only weapons powerful enough at the time to pierce these shields under normal circumstances are Ancient Drone weapons. (SG1: "Lost City, Part 2")
