Technical Data[]

Command Operations[]

The cruiser has a duotronic computer mainframe installed, relying on the mathematical relationship between subatomic structures and data processing, which acted as the primary interactive caretaker onboard to assist in day to day operations and vocal commands meaning it also decreases the amount of crew required to run the ship through autonomous services. It is equipped with hundreds of individual computer processors with dozens of backup systems and redundancies. All of them interconnected, with several of the more-complex systems, like navigation and propulsion, requiring a certain amount of interconnectivity to properly function. Certain systems, including life support, are deliberately isolated to prevent them from being compromised by problems in other systems.

Picard noted that the computer systems were roughly 150 years out of date compared to current Starfleet standards, using Duotronic-based hardware and stuxnet software, while more contemporary vessels were using isolinear or even bio-neural.

Specifications[]

Augment warship

Materials used in the construction of the Dauntless were largely considered "dated" as of the later-half of the 24th century, though still regarded as firm and sturdy with sufficient durability. This included diamide-laced beritium, kelindide, rodinium, and duranium alloy.

It is estimated that the Dauntless could remain functional even if 78% of it was rendered inoperable due to the decentralized and redundant nature of its key systems.

Boasting some physical similarity to that of an Illyrian starship, likely due to technological trade between the two genetically modified allies, the Dauntless was massive at 641 meters in length with an overall width of 473 meters and 40 habitable decks. Comparable in size to a Galaxy class Federation starship, but slightly smaller. Despite being made by humans, it looked overall alien, though did boast some design elements of the 20th-22nd century United Earth, more specifically it was alien to Starfleet.

Built for stealth and combat with a distinct membrane-like textural pattern on parts of the outer hull, it consisted of a central main body - oddly shaped, with a pair of gliding fin-like structures protruding to the sides but kept tight and flowing curves all around. It somewhat resembled a whale or stingray.

Propulsion Systems[]

Warp speed[]

As designed by human Augments with superior intellect, the Dauntless was equipped with a faster than light propulsion system as its primary method of transport between large interstellar distances. Described as 'warp-adjacent' in the fact it operates similar, yet utilized technology beyond that of Starfleet in 2383. It emitted a neutral particle signature that could not clearly identify it as Federation or any of the other major powers within the Alpha quadrant. There was enough similarities that a Starfleet vessel could be cannibalised to repair its engine to some degree though some parts was fundamentally incompatible.

Referred to as a fourth generation warp drive, by the inhabitants of Copellius, subspace field emitters strategically placated across the ship were used to configure a negative energy-density in front of the ship and a higher-density positive energy aft of the ship. This way, the vessel never technically reached superluminal speeds, thus not violating the laws of relativity, but instead traverses a shorter distance through contraction and expansion of quantized space-time in a multidimensional capacity.

One of the technological innovations contributing to the high performance of the ship's engines were the utilization of advanced plasma injectors that featured variable compression nozzles. Knowledge of this "sophisticated piece of technology" was considered to be "rather sensitive information", classified. The variable compression facilitated the rotation of plasmadyne inverters resulting in quantum flux being tripled with secondary phase coils to mitigate cochrane stress modified by a fractal pulse that enables speeds 8.4% greater to science known to the Federation.

Sustainable maximum speed is rated at 2.52 light years per standard solar hour - 22,090.32 times the speed of light, cruising speed was much lower at roughly .5 light years per standard hour.

Reactor Core[]
Boronite

Differing from Federation and bearing more in line with earlier terran experiments during the 20th-22nd centuries, main power to both the ships systems along with the warp drive was provided by a reactor core based on advanced fusion. Rather than anti-matter/matter regulated by Dilithium, it utilized Boronite-triggered fusion synthesis.

Fuel for the reactor was derived from refined Boronite, an ore created by rapid neutron collision in supernova nucleosynthesis, containment constrictors made from tellurium alloy were used to safeguard the vessel from the boronite by magnetic regulation ensuring no physical contact between the ship and the ore. When not in use, it was stored in tanks and the magnetic constrictors were locked. When ready for use in the drive, Boronite was processed in stacks where it was heated and ionized with deuterium gas prior to injection into a collider that used specially-constructed carbon metamaterials to produce unique electromagnetic topologies. This allows for much higher energy levels in particle collisions, resulting in controlled symmetry breaking inside the reactor core. The breaking results in a boson-muon field that accelerate Boronite reactions into a Uridium laser with transient non-classical energy state byproducts, resulting in overwhelming graviton and energized plasma production that is fed along an EPS grid to essential systems.

During such reactions, the core produced gamma radiation, omicron radiation, and illium-629. Overall, it was considered by Starfleet to be "advanced but reckless" which is possibly why they never attempted to explore this specific fusion technology despite its bountiful applications.

Additionally, it contained a photon manifold using six pairs of phase converters that captured ambient heat and light produced to be recycled. Boronite itself is a transuranic element that hosts an exotic material (a shell of negative matter) found in its nucleus with unique properties that allows the extremely massive density element to remain stable in the right conditions. Described as radioactive with an atomic mass of 135.

Life Support systems/Crew support[]

A genetically engineered "ionic membrane" permeates the interior of the ship and acts as its hematic seal, filtering any and all harmful bioagents, while providing breathable atmosphere consisting of Earth standard: 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases including methane. Manifesting a synthetic fiber that assists in its artificial ecosystem, taking in carbon dioxide exhaled by the crew and purifying it. Such technology is a legal grey-zone within the Federation.

'Grav-plating' was relatively the same as 22nd century Earth which were gifted by Vulcans, Copellius Augments did not advance this technology much in their 200+ years of technological exploits. Composed out of duranium sheeting, grav-plating acted as a "net", distributing both positive and negative gravity through quantum polarity emitters (i.e. functioning like a dipole), similar to the way a magnet generates a positive and negative magnetic field. In this sense, you are not only getting pulled down by the plate below you to stand on the surface of the floor, but also pushed down by the plate above you.

To compensate for g-forces from extreme motion accumulated by rapid acceleration and deceleration, the Dauntless is equipped with ship-wide inertia dampeners to protect the interior occupants. External inertial dampeners are also present which function equivalent to a parking brake.

Tactical systems[]

Offensive[]

As of the 24th century, the Dauntless and subsequently other vessels of this type was considered 'heavily armed' with weapons both known to the Federation and illegal within its borders. They were tactically superior to an Intrepid class starship.

Plasma cannons[]

Similar to the plasma cannons used by other species, with one key difference. The plasma weapon the Dauntless uses is in reality just an explosive discharge of it’s warp drive plasma. When they fire they are essentially causing a small overload and then releasing that super-heated plasma from the Boronite reaction through port vents as high-speed linear bullet-like encapsulations which are somewhat evadable by more maneuverable spacecraft.

The cannons faced forward and created a substantial blindspot in the ventral and aft sections of the ship, as most Augments are aggressive by nature, their engineers designed the cannons with the anticipation of being the hunter, not the hunted. Though, this is somewhat rectified by the torpedoes.

Subspace discharges[]

With some modification, the cannons could fire isolytic bursts using isolynium and sammonium to create a chain reaction event from an antimatter pellet and recombining nucleonic particles resulting in damage to subspace and massive interference to communications and warp drive in the area. The weapons were outlawed in the Khitomer accords but as the augments never agreed to any treaty with foreign governments, they were able to retain technically legal use of the dangerous weapon, but could be court martialed if used within Federation space.

Tractor beam[]

The class also features multiple tractor beam emitters: a total of four, which project an attenuated beam of gravity outward toward a target that allows the manipulation of said object's trajectory, either to attract or repel using synthetic gravimetric technology. The beam projected was green, and it was implied to have been reverse engineered from the Klingons of whom the Augments had commandeered several ships from previously.

Torpedo systems[]

The Dauntless had a total of six torpedo tubes, two were located aft parallel with its shuttle bay and four on the ventral side of its main hull. Capable of rapid fire, it could launch its entire torpedo inventory in a single volley if necessary in any direction, which suggested the ship shared a common magazine or loading bay.

Dauntless torpedoes were equipped with plasma-warheads which, upon detonation, an enveloping energy plasma released into a high-yield explosion carrying fluoronetic enriched subatomic particles.

Phaser array[]

Described as underpowered and little more than point-defense, the Dauntless was nevertheless equipped with a sufficient arc-covering nadion-particle beam emitter assembly as a secondary weapon system. They discharged beams of directed nadion particles rapidly charged in a crystal matrix and the maximum effective tactical range was 150,000 kilometres. Acquired through trade with neighboring systems, the phasers use sarium microcells as an energy source.

Defensive[]

Deflector Shields[]

Similar to Borg cubes and the Voth, the Dauntless did not appear to utilize traditional deflector shields. Instead, they seemed to employ a highly-modulated electromagnetic subspace field with zero gravimetric weight that could be altered to adapt to enemy weaponry. This made destroying it exceedingly difficult, as most weapons employed against the ship tended to either not work at all, or to become completely useless after a few shots once the main computer or crew had a chance to study sensor readings to tune the field geometry. Although, this issue could be overcome by rapid-shifting the frequency and modulation of the weapons in question.

According to Lokesh, the Augments of Copellius stole the technology from an unnamed species, possibly the same from whom the borg assimilated it from. The shields were weakest at the ships' dorsal field junction and could be penetrated by sustained bombardment at that location, triggering a feedback loop that disables the entire grid for 10 seconds while the generators rebooted.

Trivia[]

  • The ship was described as robust and overpowered with some advantages over competing powers due to the augments resistance enabling otherwise extremely dangerous and 'stupid' engineering practices which included Boronite-derived fusion engines to power the warp drive, along with the primary weapons array.
    • It can be seen that the augments primarily focused on speed, power, and guns when constructing the Dauntless as computer systems were lacking nearly 2 centuries in development and most of the other technology onboard was stolen from other ships, requiring a trusting open-circuit which could be exploited by enemies.
