- "One man is born a hero, his brother a coward. Babies starve, politicians grow fat. Holy men are martyred, and junkies grow legion. Why? Why, why, why, why, why? Luck! Blind, stupid, simple, doo-dah, clueless LUCK! "
- — Two-Face
Half man and half madman, Two-Face was the alias of former Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent. After receiving brain damage by a mobster's acid, Dent became a bloodthirsty, eccentric, homicidal maniac with a penchant for using a coin to determine all of his actions. The trauma combined with Batman's failure to protect him shattered his psyche. Thus, the vengeful, psychotic crime lord known as "Two-Face" was born.
Behind the scenes[]
After Tim Burton pass on the torch to his friend Joel Schumacher to continue with the franchise and help out hiring Lee and Janet Scott Batchler to write the screenplay for Batman Forever, Warner Bros. wanted two villains again, and Schumacher chose Two-Face as the main villain, and he cast Tommy Lee Jones in the role, and that's an already done deal.
Producer Peter MacGregor-Scott had worked with Jones on Under Siege and The Fugitive, and he said in an interview, "We had Tommy Lee Jones already. Tommy had said he was gonna do the movie. I love Tommy Lee. I had also done Fugitive and Under Siege. I don't think I can do a movie without him! It may be the same for him too, but he does a lot more movies more than I can."
