Icheb in 2409 |
- "Now, Seven, please."
- — Icheb to Seven of Nine, asking to end his suffering, 2386
Lieutenant Icheb was an adolescent Brunali male, former Borg drone, and Delta Quadrant native who lived during the late 24th century. He was liberated from the Borg Collective in 2376 by the crew of the USS Voyager. After spending nearly a decade with Starfleet, he fell victim to his own Borg past, when he was ultimately harvested for the very components that kept him alive. (VOY episodes: "Collective", "Ashes to Ashes", "Child's Play", "Imperfection", "Q2", "Endgame", PIC episode: "Stardust City Rag")
Biography[]
Early life[]
Icheb was born on the Brunali homeworld in the latter half of the 24th century. Prior to 2376, Icheb's people sacrificed him to the Borg, in order to halt the Collective's attacks on their world. In doing so, Icheb was assimilated, and became one with the Collective, and was immediately placed in a maturation chamber due to his immaturity.
Return to Earth[]
When the USS Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant in 2378 and a Borg nano-virus erupted on Earth, Icheb (along with Seven of Nine) was taken into custody by Starfleet Security. During this time, he was prevented from regenerating normally and his Brunali physiology re-asserted itself. Shortly afterward, his remaining Borg implants were surgically removed, and he enrolled in Starfleet Academy.
Starfleet Academy[]
After returning to the Alpha Quadrant with the rest of Voyager's crew in late December of 2377, Icheb was admitted into Starfleet Academy a semester later.
In 2378, Icheb watched over Naomi Wildman as she herself began at the Academy. Icheb was in his fourth and final year at the Academy by September 2381.
Caeliar destiny[]
In late 2381, Icheb was recruited by Chakotay to participate in a ritual known as Pacrathar through which Icheb, Chakotay, and Seven would be joined mentally. The ritual was intended to draw Seven out of a comatose-like state which she had entered following the trauma of the Caeliar absorption of the Borg into their gestalt and the death of her Aunt Irene. The ritual worked and Seven was rescued from the psychological break, thanking Icheb and asking him to watch over Naomi during Seven's absence from Earth.
Starfleet commission[]
In 2382, Fleet Admiral Leonard James Akaar promoted Icheb to the rank of Ensign and assigned him to the Project Full Circle fleet. (VOY novel: Atonement)
Ensign Icheb served as personal assistant to fleet chief engineer B'Elanna Torres. When she became pregnant, he took over more of her responsibilities. Later that year, USS Vesta chief engineer Phinnegan Bryce requested to involve Icheb in a special engineering project. Commander Malcolm Roach was aware of the blossoming romance between Icheb and Bryce, but Lieutenant Bryce convinced his superior officer that the reasons to include Icheb were practical in nature. (VOY novel: Architects of Infinity)
Online timeline[]
By 2385, Icheb had been adopted by Annika Hansen and was continuing his course work at Starfleet Academy.
Icheb was mentioned in a letter from Commander Naomi Wildman, sent on stardate 85563.8 (July 25, 2408) to her mother Samantha. Naomi received command of Deep Space Station K-7 and noted she had confidence in her crew, which included Lieutenant Commander Icheb as first officer.
This letter was published, with Naomi and Samantha's consent, in Jake Sisko's anthology The Needs of the Many in 2423.
- On 5 March, 2020, following Icheb's death on Star Trek: Picard, his character was removed from Star Trek Online and replaced with a generic Vulcan NPC.
By 2409, Icheb still held the rank of lieutenant commander and remained first officer of Deep Space Station K-7.
Starfleet career[]
USS Intrepid-A[]
In 2386, Ensign Icheb was the astrometrics officer aboard the USS Intrepid-A under the command of Captain Typhuss James Kira. (Star Trek: Intrepid)
Icheb later transfered to the USS Coleman.
USS Coleman[]
By 2386, Icheb had risen to the rank of Lieutenant in Starfleet and served aboard the USS Coleman as a science officer.
Death at Vergessen[]
That year, on leave, he aided the Fenris Rangers, a vigilante organization that Seven of Nine had joined. Bjayzl, a woman who had joined the Rangers but was actually a broker in Borg parts, found out about Icheb from Seven, lured Icheb into an ambush while he was performing a reconnaissance mission near Daimanta. Icheb was captured and taken to a facility called the Seven Domes on Vergessen in the Hypatia system. There, his Borg components were harvested from his body without the aid of anesthetics. Seven attempted to rescue Icheb but arrived too late.
Mortally wounded and in excruciating pain, Icheb pleaded with Seven to end his life quickly. In an act of mercy, Seven used her phaser on him at point blank range while holding him in a final embrace, saying, "I'm so sorry... my child." (PIC episode: "Stardust City Rag")
Alternate realities[]
In an alternate timeline, created when Chakotay traveled to the future due to his body being charged with chroniton particles, Icheb was still on Voyager, and had been given a commission as a Lieutenant Commander in the command division by 2394. Helped Janeway and Chakotay restore Voyager to the correct space and time-line after it was hit by a chronokinetic surge that altered the ship. He did this by using advanced instruments that he and Naomi Wildman developed in the astrometrics lab. Chakotay noted his unparalleled mastery of temporal mechanics. Icheb and Lieutenant Naomi Wildman helped Chakotay return to his own time. (VOY episode: "Shattered")
In a timeline affected by the Q Continuum's temporal anomaly crisis, versions of that lieutenant commander, and of Icheb from 2377, appeared in local space around 2380 and joined Starfleet to help resolve the crisis and related events. (ST video game: Timelines)
