Joseph Gates was born on March 12th, 2360 to Michael and Laura Gates. He grew up in Dallas, Texas and has at least one brother and sister. His father was a career MACO man which drove a wedge between the two when he decided to join the Starfleet Marine Corps; causing them not to speak for many years. He attended the University of Texas before joining up.
