Kira Nerys is a 24th century Bajoran woman in the universe that became known as the 47th universe. She was a daughter of the Kira family, born to Kira Taban and his wife Kira Meru. Her brother was named Kira Pol.
In her early life, Nerys was betrothed to Colonel General Shakaar Edon. They were briefly married, and Nerys took his family name, becoming Shakaar Nerys. Shakaar's command cruiser was lost shortly thereafter, and the widowed Nerys declined to keep his family name.
Kira was a member of the Bajoran Ascendancy Military Fleet, eventually reaching the rank of major second class while fighting in the Cardassian Border Wars. When the nearly decimated Earth Starfleet needed help fleeing from alien threats, she opened a space station named Bajor Space 9 to help refugees settling in the Gamma Quadrant.
In the 2380s, Colonel Kira was married to a Parliamentary Order of Planets officer, Vice Captain Hal Tiberius Sylwell. They had one child, Haley Sylwell. When both Earth and Bajor joined the Order of Planets, Brigadier Kira was transferred to the rank of commodore.
In 2393, Kira met Typhuss James Halliwell after Hal was killed and later married Typhuss a few months later.
In 2394, Kira and Typhuss's child Kira Hoshi Sato was born on Bajor.
