The Liberation of Erso, also known as the rescue of Jyn Erso was a mission mounted by the Federation in 2386 to rescue Jyn Erso, daughter of renowned MACO soldier Galen Erso, from Der'kal custody so she could assist them in their search for a Der'kal fleet that was planning on attacking Earth.

Captain Typhuss James Kira led Extraction Team Bravo to Der'kal Detention Center and Labor Camp LEG-817 on Wobani, where Jyn was held in Der'kal custody. They overpowered the stormtrooper guards and rescued Jyn, who initially tried to escape from the Empire before being subdued by stormtroopers prior to the rescue mission.

Prelude[]

"Jyn was captured by the Der'kal Empire, 4 days ago, she is on Wobani in the Der'kal Detention Center and Labor Camp LEG-817."
Starfleet Intelligence agent to Captain Kira

In 2386, Starfleet Intelligence received information that Jyn Erso was captured by the Der'kal Empire shortly after the mission on the planet Eadu. Starfleet Intelligence confirmed that Jyn was a prisoner at Der'kal Detention Center and Labor Camp LEG-817 on Wobani, where she—under the alias of Liana Hallik—was serving her sentence on the planet.

Despite significant disagreement amongst Starfleet personnel, a rescue mission was approved by Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway. General Samantha Carter approved the formation of a rapid response team, Extraction Team Bravo, to be led by Captain Typhuss James Kira.

The liberation[]

"Calling all Federation vessels. This is Captain Kira on behalf of Extraction Team Bravo. We have encountered a minor technical setback. We have taken refuge in an asteroid field and require time to patch up our systems, assistance is most welcome. ....Immediate assistance. Any assistance really. We are transmitting coordinates. ...Did I mention "immediate?."

Extraction Team Bravo timed its arrival at the prison camp so they could extract Jyn when she was being transported on a HCVw A9 turbo tank. Upon their arrival, they attacked the transport that Jyn was being held on and a pair of Bravo Team MACO soldiers neutralized the two stormtroopers who were guarding the prisoners inside. This allowed Captain Kira the opportunity to safely enter the transport, where he verified Jyn's identity. With his exfiltration target in site, Typhuss released her from her restraints and told her that this was a rescue mission. The extraction team left the planet with Jyn in tow. As they were leaving, however, their Danube-class runabout, the USS Shenandoah, encountered an issue with its navigational system and their warp drive malfunctioned unable to make the jump into warp.

The team proceeded to take refuge in a nearby asteroid field, from where they sent out a priority transmission to all available Federation vessels to request assistance. A F-302 fighter-interceptor squadron, Red Flight, answered the call and arrived to save them from incoming Der'kal forces, including a Star Destroyer and several TIE fighters.

Aftermath[]

"The Der'kal are going to launch a massive attack on Earth, we can stop their attack, we'll take the next chance, and the next, on and on until we win."
— Jyn Erso

Jyn went back to Earth with the rescue team, she informed Starfleet Command of the coming Der'kal attack on Earth.
