Early life[]
Olivia Benson was born on January 13th, 2233 on Earth to Serena Benson. She was the product of the 2233 rape of Serena Benson by a food salesman named Joseph Hollister. At the time of the rape, Serena had been working in the cafeteria of Columbia University. Serena died from injuries sustained in a fall when she was drunk in 2259, which left Olivia deeply saddened. She originally worked in the Manhattan SVU before being recruited into Starfleet. (Star Trek: Defiant)
Starfleet Academy (2255-2259)[]

As a top-performing Academy student, Olivia was invited to participate in Advanced Tactical Training at Starfleet Command College. In summer 2255, after six months of training, Cadet Benson was elected captain of Team Delta for the final round of ATT testing, facing off against Team Gamma, led by Cadet Sulu.
