Pilot is the series opener of Star Trek: The Next Generation, TNG Season 1.
Synopsis[]
After a year of repairs and refitting the USS Enterprise-E is finally ready to resume its mission of exploration, but when the ship receives a distress call from an outpost relay the crew must come together and deal with whatever is going on.

EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]
A shot of an interstellar dust cloud, as the spectical of deep space is amazing.
TEXT APPEARS ON SCREEN:
Recently the Dominion War has ended as the Federation, Klingon, and Romulan governments are slowly rebuilding after the brutal conflict, as the peace is restored the Remans attempted to over throw the Romulan government being led by the human clone Shinzon of Remus.
But the local pirates have been taking advantage of the lack of Starfleet presences, but Starfleet is looking to restore their presences in the region...
A volley of photons streak by as two pirate vessels flyby as a Excelsior-class vessel flies by.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, CALIFORNIA [RED ALERT]
[RED ALERT LIGHTS FLASHING, KLAXONS BLARING] As the crew are at their battle stations.
CPT. TELFORD: Report?
LCDR. BRANSON: The Orion Pirates are moving off but we're in pursuit sir.
Captain Telford sits in the Captain's chair.
CPT. TELFORD: Have they responded to the order of surrender?
TACTICAL OFFICER: Negative sir.
[BOOM!] As everyone braces themselves.
TACTICAL OFFICER: Shields holding!
CPT. TELFORD: Lieutenant remind them that we're still here and will not leave.
TACTICAL OFFICER: Aye, sir.
EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]
The California fires her phasers at the Orion ships destroying one of them.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS CALIFORNIA [RED ALERT]
COM OFFICER: Captain, we're being hailed by the Orion vessel they're reciting the Khitomer Accords.
LCDR. BRANSON: What? Why?
OPS OFFICER: Sensors are detecting three more Orion vessels on an intercept course.
LCDR. BRANSON: They've tricked us!
CPT. TELFORD: REVERSE COURSE!
[A BRIGHT FLASH]
CUT TO:
INT. BEDROOM AREA/CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS, USS YORKTOWN
John jolts up and looks around the darken room as he sees his girlfriend Jessica laying next to him as he gets out of the bed and walks to the bathroom area.
INT. BATHROOM AREA/CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS, USS YORKTOWN
John enters the room and turns the light on and looks into the mirror as he splashes water on his face as he looks into the mirror, as we see the pain and guilt in his face that he wasn't able to protect Captain Telford during his time aboard the California.
Jessica walks up behind him and wraps her arms around his waist.
JESSICA: Same dream?
John nods.
JOHN [sighs]: Yeah, its been three years since that attack by the Orions and yet it still haunts me to this day.
Jessica kisses his back.
JESSICA: John, you need to get help.
JOHN: I've tried to get help Jess.
He walks out of the bathroom area, as Jessica follows him.
INT. BEDROOM AREA/CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS, USS YORKTOWN
They walk to the bedroom and John sits on the bed as Jessica sits behind him and wraps her arms around him.
JOHN: Its just that the Counselor is a bit of a quack.
[COM CHIRPS] As Commander S'Dar comes over the com.
LCDR. S'DAR [com voice]: S'Dar to Smith
CPT. SMITH [to com]: Smith here go ahead S'Dar.
LCDR. S'DAR [com voice]: We're approaching the Terran System
CPT. SMITH [to com]: Very well then drop to impulse and continue to Utopia Planitia Fleetyards.
LCDR. S'DAR [com voice]: Aye, Captain
JESSICA [sighs]: So much for a quiet night together.
She lays her head on his shoulder.
EXT. TERRAN SYSTEM [OPTICAL]
The USS Yorktown NCC-1717-A an Lamarr-Class vessel passes by Saturn.
INT. BEDROOM AREA/CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS, USS YORKTOWN-A
John is wearing his new four pip uniform.
JOHN [sighs]: I don't feel right wearing these pips Jess many didn't like that I got these pips.
Jessica walks up to him.
JESSICA: John, you were given this rank because of your quick thinking that day and yes I feel like that Commander Hunter shouldn't of accused you of trying to come onto her during a fire fight against the Cardassians.
John turns to her.
JOHN: The Admiralty didn't want me to be promoted to the rank of Captain, if it wasn't for Jean-Luc's recommendation then I'd be first officer still.
Before he could finish Jessica kisses him.
JESSICA: Does that answer your question John?
JOHN [smiles]: Yes it does I better get going.
John EXITS his girlfriend's quarters.
[BLACKOUT, END OF TEASER, START CREDITS]
Act 1[]
FADE IN
EXT. MARS ORBIT, SOL SYSTEM [OPTICAL]
The Yorktown parks next to the dry-dock berth holding the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E a Sovereign-Class vessel.
INT. TRANSPORTER ROOM I/USS ENTERPRISE-E
Lieutenant Jack Mason is awaiting the arrival of Captain Branson who materialized on the transporter pad.
LTJG. MASON: Welcome aboard Captain I'm Lieutenant Jack Mason chief of security.
They shook hands.
CPT. BRANSON [smiles]: Thanks Lieutenant it feels good to be back.
They EXIT the transporter room.
INT. DECK FIVE CORRIDOR, USS ENTERPRISE-E
Both Captain Branson and Lieutenant Mason are walking to the nearest turbolift.
LTJG. MASON: I understand that you served with Fleet Captain Picard?
CPT. BRANSON [nods]: Yes when Riker was transferred to the Titan, he recommended me to be the CO of the Enterprise.
LTJG. MASON: Tactical systems will be back online before we launch.
CPT. BRANSON: Good work Lieutenant I want to review the duty roster and speak to each department head.
LTJG. MASON [nods]: Aye, sir.
They continue to walk to the turbolift.
EXT. MARS ORBIT, SOL SYSTEM [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise is docked.
INT. CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS, USS ENTERPRISE-E
John unpacks his gear.
[DOORS CHIMED] As John looks at the doors.
CPT. BRANSON: Come in.
[DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As Jessica enters.
JESSICA: Hey, I wanted to see you before I depart for the Neutral Zone border they want us to patrol the border after Spock was nearly killed by the newly restored Senate.
JOHN [smiles]: It's great that you're here I wanted to thank you for giving me a ride back to Sol.
JESSICA: I don't mind doing that John I love you.
JOHN [smiles]: I love you to dear.
CUT TO:
INT. OFFICER'S MESS, USS ENTERPRISE-E
The entire crew is there.
LTJG. MASON: Attention to order!
The crew faces the poduim.
FCPT. PICARD [re: PADD]: To Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Stardate 58401.5, you are hereby required and requested to relinquish command of your vessel to Captain John Branson as of this date sign Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway, Starfleet Command.
Picard turns to face John.
FCPT. PICARD [to com]: Computer transfer command codes to Captain John Branson. Voice authorization: Picard-Delta-Five.
COMPUTER VOICE: Transfer complete, USS Enterprise now under command of Captain John Branson
[BOATSWAIN WHISTLE] As Picard extends his hand.
CPT. BRANSON: I relieve you sir.
FCPT. PICARD [smiles]: I stand relieved.
The ceremony is over as Captain Branson faces the crew.
CPT. BRANSON: I want you to know how thrilled that I am to be your new Captain I want this to be a tightly run ship but one that you feel proud to be serving on, dismissed senior staff to the briefing room by 1430 hours.
The crew heads back to work to prep the ship for launch as Picard walks over to Branson.
FCPT. PICARD [sighs]: I wish I could give you something more exciting for your maiden voyage John, but its simply straightforward. You'll be delivering supplies to the Federation science station Epsilon II.
CPT. BRANSON: That's not so bad any news on my new first officer?
FCPT. PICARD: Not yet but I will let you know when I find out.
CPT. BRANSON: Isn't the station along the Federation-Romulan Neutral Zone border?
FCPT. PICARD [nods]: Yes it is.
CPT. BRANSON: Very well we'll get it done sir.
Captain Picard looks around his former ship one last time and EXITS the Officers mess.
CUT TO:
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
The crew are at their stations getting the ship ready.
[TURBOLIFT DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As Captain Branson walks onto the bridge.
LTJG. MASON: Captain on the bridge.
The crew snaps to attention.
CPT. BRANSON: As you were.
They go back to their stations as Captain Branson sits in the Captain's chair.
CPT. BRANSON: Report?
LTJG. SMITH: Supplies have been loaded and stored in Cargo Bay five sir.
Captain Branson leans back in the Captain's chair.
CPT. BRANSON: Let's get to work seal airlock, release docking clamps thrusters at one-half.
Everyone gets to work.
LTJG. MASON: Moorings retracted and docking clamps have been released.
ENS. CARLSON: Thrusters at one-half.
CPT. BRANSON: Take us out.
EXT. DOCKING BERTH [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise slowly moves out of the berth.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
EVERYONE REACTS
EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise flies clear of the berth as we see into the bridge dome.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
ENS. CARLSON: We're clear and free to fly sir.
CPT. BRANSON: Set course for Epsilon II research station warp seven.
Ensign Carlson taps commands into the helm console.
ENS. CARLSON: Course and speed set sir.
CPT. BRANSON: Hit it!
Ensign Carlson presses the warp button on the helm station.
EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise's warp engines power up and she shoots off into the distance into a burst of light.
[BLACKOUT, END OF ACT 1]
Act 2[]
FADE IN
EXT. WARP SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise travels to Epsilon II.
CPT. BRANSON'S [voice over]: Captain's Log Stardate 58894.7, We're on course for Epsilon II to deliver supplies to the research outpost, ship and crew are doing well and so am I
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
LTJG. SMITH: I've never been to Epsilon II what is like at the science station?
LCDR. T'LAR: Epsilon II is an outpost devoted exclusively to scientific research.
CPT. BRANSON: Researchers from all over the Federation petition to work there.
[COM CHIRPS] As Lieutenant Mason taps commands into the tactical console and reports.
LTJG. MASON: Captain we're receiving a hail from Fleet Captain Picard its in regards to the first officer it reads: Enterprise rendezvous with USS Dauntless to get the new XO.
CPT. BRANSON: Ensign?
Ensign Carlson taps commands into the helm and reports.
ENS. CARLSON: Its not far from our current course sir.
CPT. BRANSON: Mister Mason inform the Dauntless of our heading and that we'll rendezvous with them.
LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir.
EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise rendezvous with the USS Dauntless a Galaxy-Class wartime refit..
INT. CAPTAIN'S READY ROOM, USS ENTERPRISE-E
[DOORS CHIMED]
CPT. BRANSON: Come.
[DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As Commander Susan Ivanova enters.
LCDR. IVANOVA: Lieutenant Commander Susan Ivanova reporting for duty sir, my transfer orders.
She hands Captain Branson the isolinear chip.
CPT. BRANSON: Welcome aboard Commander I hope that we will get a chance to get to know each other.
LCDR. IVANOVA: Same here sir.
CPT. BRANSON: Dismissed.
Commander Ivanova EXITS the ready room.
EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise's warp engines power up and she shoots back into warp.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
Captain Branson and Commander Ivanova sit in their chairs as Ensign Carlson reports.
ENS. CARLSON: Approaching the Epsilon II sir.
CPT. BRANSON: Drop us out of warp Ensign.
Ensign Carlson taps commands into the helm console.
CPT. BRANSON: Hail the research outpost.
Lieutenant Mason taps commands into the tactical console.
LTJG. MASON [confused]: Sir, I'm not getting anything from the outpost.
CPT. BRANSON: Is there a problem with their com system?
LTJG. MASON: I'm not sure but I'm not detecting anything from the Outpost not a signal nor a transmission.
CPT. BRANSON: Bring the outpost up on the viewer.
ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]
shows the outpost.
LTJG. SMITH: That's Epsilon II Research station in orbit of the planet?
LTJG. MASON: Correction that was the outpost it looks like it has been torn to shreds.
Captain Branson and Commander Ivanova get up for their chairs and are both in utter shock.
[SENSORS BEEP] As Lieutenant Mason reports.
LTJG. MASON: Two Romulan warbirds de-cloaking directly ahead!
CPT. BRANSON: RED ALERT! SHIELDS UP!
[LIGHTS DIMMED]
[KLAXON BLARES]
EXT. EPSILON SYSTEM/EPSILON TWO ORBIT [OPTICAL]
Two Valdore-Class warbirds approach the Enterprise.
[BLACKOUT, END OF ACT TWO]

EXT. EPSILON SYSTEM/EPSILON II ORBIT [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise faces the two Romulan warships.
