- "I know to Starfleet the Prophets are nothing more than wormhole aliens, but to me they're gods. I can't prove it, but then again, I don't have to, because my faith in them is enough."
- — Kira Nerys, 2375
- "The Prophets have a plan for us. It's not always easy to see what it is."
- — Kira Nerys, 2375
- "The path the Prophets laid out for us isn't always easy, but that's no reason to turn to hate and fear."
- — Kira Nerys, 2375
- "John Martin: It's just that you spend so much time in services that sometimes it makes me wish I were a believer so that we could go together."
- "Ezri: That's so sweet. Kira: I would love for you to come with me, but I don't think you'll get much out of it if you don't believe in the Prophets. Typhuss: Kira's right if you don't believe in the Prophets what's the point of going to services with a Bajoran woman if you don't believe in Bajoran religion. John Martin: Perhaps if I had an Orb experience? Kira: It doesn't work like that. Faith has to come first. John Martin: That's too bad. I have a feeling it must be very comforting to believe in something more powerful than yourself. Julian: If you really feel that way, there are other faiths. Ezri: Would it bother you if John believed in Klingon religion? Kira: Not if he got something out of it. Julian: He'd get to eat the hearts of his enemies. Ezri: And go to Sto'Vo'Kor when he dies. Julian: You can go on a vision quest. John Martin: But then I wouldn't get to go to services with Kira, would I. That's the whole point. Ezri: That really is so sweet."

The Celestial Temple, home of the Prophets

The Prophet Sarah appeared to Ben Sisko in a vision
The Prophets as the Bajorans know them, Siblings to the Eav'oq, Wargods to the Aresians, or Wormhole aliens to Starfleet are a race of non-corporeal aliens who reside in the Bajoran wormhole outside of linear space time. (DS9 episode: "Emissary")
History[]
The Prophets and Bajor[]
The Prophets have been involved with affairs of the Bajoran people for millennia. The Bajora began the worship of the Prophets which soon spread over much of the planet to the point where the planet and people were named after the Bajora. (DS9 - Gateways short story: "Horn and Ivory")
The Prophets sent nine Orbs to Bajor which can sometimes induce effects on those exposed to them, these have been interpreted as messages and sometimes even communication with the Prophets. (DS9 episode: "Emissary")
The Prophets and the Pah-Wraiths[]
There existed another group of beings similar to the Prophets who were known as the Pah-wraiths. One group of Pah-wraiths were banished by the Prophets to the Fire Caves on Bajor. (DS9 episodes: "The Assignment", "What You Leave Behind")
Another group remained hidden within a second red wormhole known as Jalbador. Both groups were unlike the Prophets as they were malevolent as well as cruel. (DS9 - Millennium novels: The Fall of Terok Nor, The War of the Prophets, Inferno)
Kelvin timeline[]
The Pah-wraiths eventually went on the offensive, launching a genocidal campaign against the Prophets, driving their foes to extinction save one individual who was locked within the Reckoning Tablet. With the Prophets dead, the Wraiths turned their attention to the other higher species, with even the Q Continuum failing to offer sufficient resistance.
By the 24th century, the Bajoran Resistance had found the Reckoning Tablet, intending to release only the Prophet and use its power to restore order to both the material and immaterial worlds. Before they could however, Quark betrayed them to the Dominion, with the Tablet being brought to Gul Dukat aboard Terok Nor. Dukat quickly merged with the Pah-wraith and slew Kira Nerys before the Prophet could possess her. Undeterred, the Prophet teleported itself across the galaxy to instead possess Benjamin Sisko. Joined by an increasingly desperate Q, the group travelled into the nexus of the wormhole where all the higher beings were stripped of their power. Once Sisko was killed, he transferred the Prophet to Spock who quickly realized the only path to victory was to merge Q and the Prophet into a singular being. With this newfound power, Q destroyed the Pah-wraiths with a but a wave of his hand before sending the USS Enterprise and its crew back to to 2261 while he went off to brief his superiors of his new status-quo and visit Jean-Luc Picard. (TOS - The Q Gambit comics: "Part 4", "Part 5", "Part 6")
Other information[]
Out of respect for the Prophets, the Iconians did not generally build Gateways within a ten light-year radius of the wormhole. (DS9 - Gateways novel: Demons of Air and Darkness)
Kira Alien[]
The Kira Alien appeared several times when the wormhole aliens made contact in visions with different individuals.
When Quark entered the wormhole in 2371 to find out what had happened to Zek, this wormhole alien, in disdain, said "Another one". The wormhole aliens informed Quark that they found Zek to be adversarial and aggressive. They had therefore changed Zek into a more peaceful state where profit meant nothing. (DS9 episode: "Prophet Motive")
After Akorem Laan had briefly assumed the role of Emissary of the Prophets in 2372 and reinstated the d'jarras , this wormhole alien told Akorem that the d'jarras were in the past, which Sisko had taught them meant that it was no more; it also explained that they had sent Akorem into the future for the Sisko who was their Emissary. (DS9 episode: "Accession")
The Kira Nerys Prophet agreed that Sisko should not end the game and sacrifice himself and his crew in an attempt to stop a Dominion fleet from entering the Alpha Quadrant in 2374. (DS9 episode: "Sacrifice of Angels")
This Prophet again appeared to Benjamin Sisko, along with the Jake and Koral Aliens, while on Bajor in 2374 while visiting B'hala. They announced that "the circle is complete," explained that "much will depend on the Sisko," and that "he will not waver [..] he will bring the Reckoning." Though Sisko did not understand what they spoke of, the Kira Alien explained that "the Sisko will know." (DS9 episode: "The Reckoning")
- The wormhole alien was played by Nana Visitor. She was identified in the script as "Kira Alien".
Kira/Prophet[]

A Prophet possessing Kira Nerys
This Prophet which possessed Kira Nerys did so during the Reckoning, which was a battle that took place between a Prophet and the Pah-wraith, Kosst Amojan, who possessed Jake Sisko, on the Promenade of Deep Space 9. This Prophet was about to defeat its opponent, when it was driven out of Kira's body by chronitons. (DS9 episode: "The Reckoning")
- The wormhole alien was played by Nana Visitor.
