The R1 Investigator-class was a type of Federation space station/starbase in use in the 23rd and 24th centuries. The most notable facility of this type was Regula I. (FASA module: Regula-1 Orbital Station Deckplans)
History and specifics[]
Protomatter was developed at an R1 Investigator-class station in the Saur system. This station was the primary laboratory for the Hanson Project. A failed test badly damaged the facility and killed 43 people, including Doctor Randolph Hanson, and prompted a Federation Science Council ban on protomatter research on reference stardate 2/1403.22.
