The Son'a battleship was a large warship utilized by the Son'a during the late-24th century. The battleship's design was similar to the Son'a battle cruiser but featured fewer armaments and no isolytic weaponry. These vessels were equipped with isolytic subspace weapons, as well as conventional photon torpedoes.
Specifications[]
The Son'a battleship resembled the battle cruiser but lacked a superstructure on top. In terms of armament, the battleship was a match for a Federation Starfleet Akira-class heavy escort or a Defiant-class destroyer. The battleship was more powerful than a Son'a destroyer. Its armaments consisted of red phasers and photon torpedoes. (ST video game: Armada mission Paradise Revisited)
History[]
In 2375, two of these vessels escorted the Son'a collector through the Briar Patch to the Ba'ku planet. Their purpose in the Briar Patch was to protect the Son'a's interests in completing their mission.
They were later sent to prevent the USS Enterprise from leaving the Briar Patch, as it attempted to clear the volatile region of space in order to contact the Federation Council. The battleships, which were outfitted with the capability to traverse the Briar Patch much faster than the Enterprise, intercepted the Starfleet vessel nearly thirty minutes from the entry point into the Patch.
The two battleships attacked the Enterprise, causing moderate damage to the vessel, before firing an isolytic burst in its proximity, forcing the Enterprise to eject its warp core.
Riker, who was in temporary command of the Enterprise, then initiated a unique battle tactic that neutralized the Son'a threat. In the end, one of the battleships was destroyed, while the other was on fire and requesting assistance. (TNG movie: Insurrection)
Today, the Son'a still employ this type of vessel. They have made a handful of upgrades since the Dominion War, including improved phasers, torpedo launchers, shields, and structural integrity fields. Now that the Son'a is part of the Typhon Pact, it's possible these ships may see additional improvements. (Starbase 400)
In 2376, renegade Son'a attempted to retake the planet Ba'ku from the Ba'ku and dispatched eight battleships and a dozen destroyers to attack Starfleet Outpost 40. The Starfleet force defending the planet was led by Ambassador Worf, who had returned to Starfleet temporarily and commanded the Defiant-class destroyer USS Avenger. The Son'a fleet fought to the death and was soundly defeated. (ST video game: Armada mission Paradise Revisited)
