In an alternate timeline where Terra Prime kept United Earth from joining the Coalition of Planets in 2155, the Soval class was a 23rd century Interstellar Coalition starship type, a Vulcan-built ringship cruiser class in Interstellar Coalition Space Command service in the 2260s decade. (ST - Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism novel: A Less Perfect Union)
Service history[]
Namesake[]
In the 22nd century, Soval was the Vulcan Ambassador to United Earth. In the year 2155, he presented the Confederacy of Vulcan during the charter convention of the Coalition of Planets in San Francisco on Earth. A xenophobic Human faction, Terra Prime, threatened to fire on Earth if United Earth failed to expel all aliens from the planet. (ENT episode: "Terra Prime")
Terra Prime followed through with its threat and commandeered the Verteron Array on Mars to attack San Francisco, killing the ambassador and delegates from other worlds. United Earth pulled out from the Coalition, which was chartered on Babel instead. (ST - Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism novel: A Less Perfect Union)
Coalition service[]
In the 23rd century, the Vulcans provided the Interstellar Coalition with the Soval-class cruiser. The Soval class maintained the distinctive characteristics of Vulcan vessels, such as a wedge-shaped hull and a ring that contained warp field generators. A ship's name was written on the hull in a trilingual fashion - in Andorii, Tellaran and the Vulcan language.
Ships of this class had a multi-species crew. The personnel of the ICV V'Lar consisted of representatives from several Coalition worlds and its commanding officer was Captain Glal blasch Cheg, a Tellarite. In the year 2264, Captain Cheg and the V'Lar came to the aid of the United Earth starship UESS Enterprise when it was attacked by Orion raiders at the Robinson Nebula.
The Soval class was a contemporary of the Sitar-class. Coalition Space Command deployed Sitar-class ships as diplomatic vessels, and thus rendered them exempt from the diversity requirements that applied to the Soval.
Coalition ships were warp-capable, defended by deflector shields and armed with phasers. (ST - Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism novel: A Less Perfect Union)
Alternate timeline[]
In the primary universe, the wedge-shaped 22nd century Vulcan High Command D'Kyr-class ringship cruiser remained in service as science vessel into the 25th century. The VSS Soval was a ship of this class. (STO - Delta Rising mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
In the same universe, Federation Starfleet operated the USS Soval in the 24th century. (SCE - Wounds eBook: Security)
