The Batgirl suit is a protective, almost completely bulletproof and blade proof, as well as completely fireproof suit and combat armor developed by Alfred Pennyworth, Barbara who uses it for fighting crime during her activities as Batgirl. Barbara has now abandoned this suit, she now uses a new suit, the Arctic Batgirl suit, which is more advanced then her previous suit. However, Barbara does still use the suit as a backup when her current suit is damaged or destroyed.

History[]

While Alfred grew closer to death, he shared with Barbara an encrypted disk, which contained all of Batman's secrets. Barbara immediately hacked into disc, and discovered that Bruce and Dick were Batman and Robin, and that Alfred had planned for her future involvement.

After she donned a suit that was designed for her by Alfred, Barbara, under the guise of Batgirl, defeated Poison Ivy and saved Batman and Robin. Together, the three of them defeated Mr. Freeze, who attempted to create a new ice-age in Gotham City, and retrieved the cure for Alfred's disease. Barbara then officially joined the family and the team.

A few years later Barbara eventually graduated into becoming a solo vigilante and began using the Arctic Batgirl suit as her suit instead of the standard Batgirl suit, that she had used before when working with Batman and Robin.

Functions[]

  • Identity concealment: The primary use of the suit is to conceal Barbara's identity in order to prevent enemies from knowing her true identity while still being able to operate as a vigilante.
  • High-density kevlar armor: The suit is composed of a kevlar-based material with a leather appearance. Its durability is first shown to be dense enough to take one of Joker's bullets to the chest, albeit the bullet did manage to penetrate the suit's armor, though not enough to injure Barbara. The armor was later upgraded, now being able to protect Barbara from gunfire at point-blank range, as well as from impacts that would otherwise be severe and possibly fatal.
