[EPISODE NOTES: OPENING CREDITS FALL OVER OPENING SCENES]

The Enterprise travels to the Federation-Romulan Neutral Zone border.

CPT. BRANSON'S [voice over]: Captain's log stardate 51709.3, Patrolling outposts guarding the neutral zone between the planets of Romulus and Remus and the rest of the galaxy, received an emergency call from Earth outpost 4. The USS Enterprise is moving to investigate and assist

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

[TURBOLIFT DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As Captain Branson walks onto the bridge and walks over to the Captain's chair.

CPT. BRANSON: Situation report Ro?

LCDR. RO: Lieutenant Mason will brief you.

Commander Ro vacates the Captain's chair as John walks to the ops and helm stations as Lieutenant Mason reports.

LTJG. MASON: Outpost 4 reports under attack, sir. Then message terminates.

John walks to the three chairs.

CPT. BRANSON: Anything from 2 or 3?

LTJG. MASON: Outpost 2 hasn't responded to our hails and Outpost 3 has also gone silent.

CPT. BRANSON: How far out are we, Kara?

ENS. CARLSON: We're 8 minutes out at this velocity sir.

CPT. BRANSON: Did outpost four say anything else about the attacking vessel?

LTJG. MASON: Negative sir. I bet its the same attackers, sir. The Romulans.

Commander T'Mir turns from her station.

CPT. BRANSON: Let's not make any guesses just yet. I'd like to avoid a war if I can.

EXT. WARP SPACE [OPTICAL]

A burst of light as the Enterprise slips out of warp.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

ENS. CARLSON: We've dropped out of warp sir. Just outside of weapons range.

ENS. SMITH: Detecting a fair amount of debris sir but so far no sign of enemy vessel.

CPT. BRANSON: Let's triple check. Julia, see if there's any Federation or allied vessels in the sector to provide backup if we need it.

ENS. SMITH: Aye, sir.

Ensign Smith taps commands into the ops console and reports.

ENS. SMITH: The Stargazer is on the far side of the border.

LCDR. RO: That's Sarah's ship.

CPT. BRANSON: Yes it is.

[COM CHIRPS] As Lieutenant Mason checks the tactical console and reports.

LTJG. MASON: We're being hailed its the outpost audio only.

CPT. BRANSON: Let's hear it.

LCDR. AL-SALAH [com voice]: Enterprise, can you read me? This Lieutenant Commander Hansen Al-Salah

CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Commander, this is John Branson Captain of the Enterprise we read you. What's your status?

LCDR. AL-SALAH [com voice]: Outposts 2, 3 and 8 are gone

Captain Branson closes his eyes to say a silent prayer for those who were killed on the three outposts.

LCDR. AL-SALAH [com voice]: Unknown weapon, completely destroyed them. We had our shields up at maximum. Hit by fantastic power. Blew through our shields. If they hit us again with our shields gone. Do you read me Enterprise?

CPT. BRANSON [to com]: What hit you, Commander? What vessel? Can you identify?

LCDR. AL-SALAH [com voice]: Space vessel, only glimpses of

CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Can you locate the intruder for us?

LCDR. AL-SALAH [com voice]: Negative, it all happened so fast. And it seem to have cloaked. Switching to visual

LCDR. AL-SALAH [viewer]: Enterprise can you see? My command post. We're a mile deep under ground almost solid iron even with our shields up it did this. Can you see Enterprise?

CPT. BRANSON: We see Commander was your son with you?

INT. COMMAND POST, OUTPOST FOUR [RED ALERT, BATTLE DAMAGED]

CPT. BRANSON: What can you tell us about the attacking vessel?

LCDR. AL-SALAH [viewer]: No identification. No answer to our challenge. Only a glimpse of

INT. COMMAND POST, OUTPOST FOUR [RED ALERT, BATTLE DAMAGED]

LCDR. AL-SALAH: Then they fired something at us. High-energy plasma. Fantastic power. Vessel seems to have cloaked but it is out there somewhere.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

LCDR. AL-SALAH [viewer]: Enterprise, something is coming on our viewing screen moving fast!

CPT. BRANSON: Send us your signal.

LCDR. AL-SALAH [viewer]: Switching

LCDR. AL-SALAH [viewer]: Can you see Enterprise!

CPT. BRANSON: Phasers?

Lieutenant Mason taps commands into the tactical console and reports.

LTJG. MASON: We're out of phaser range Captain!

CPT. BRANSON: Commander, do you have phasers we're out of range!

LCDR. AL-SALAH [viewer]: Negative. Phasers gone. Weapons crew all dead

CPT. BRANSON: Jack, make a challenge. Warn that ship off!

LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir they're not acknowledging us!

EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]

The forward section of the unknown vessel fires off a green torpedo that streaks towards the outpost.

INT. COMMAND CENTER, OUTPOST FOUR [RED ALERT, BATTLE DAMAGED]

[BOOM!] As the base is destroyed with Hansen in it.

LCDR. AL-SALAH: AAHHH!!!!

The outpost erupts in a fiery explosion.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

Captain Branson uncovers his eyes.

ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]

shows the vessel re-cloak.

ENS. SMITH: Outpost 4 disintegrated Captain.

LTJG. MASON: Captain, we have to find a way to take them out.

CPT. BRANSON: We need something to follow Lieutenant you know that. Figure out how they got through our tachyon detection relays they should of warned the Outposts of the incursion.

ENS. SMITH: Aye, sir.

John looks over at Commander T'Mir.

CPT. BRANSON: Commander T'Mir you're our resident expert on the Romulans figure out how to punch through their cloak.

LCDR. T'MIR: Aye, sir.

[SENSORS BEEP] As Ensign Smith reports.

ENS. SMITH: We've got a contact on approach sir.

[COM CHIRPS] As Lieutenant Mason reports.

LTJG. MASON: We're being hailed its one of our vessels its the Stargazer.

CPT. BRANSON: Stargazer? That's Sarah's vessel who's calling?

LTJG. MASON: Her commanding officer Fleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

[STAR TREK FANFARE] As John turns to him.

CPT. BRANSON: On screen.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [YELLOW ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD: Enterprise, this is Fleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Stargazer here to offer help.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

CPT. BRANSON [smiles]: Good to see you again Jean-Luc.

FCPT. PICARD [viewer]: We received outpost four's distress call and pushed warp 9.8 for as long as we could hold it do we know who attacked?

LTJG. MASON: We have a pretty good idea.

CPT. BRANSON: We're trying to determine that conclusively.

Commander T'Mir turns from her station to report.

LCDR. T'MIR: I think I may have a lead sirs. The vessel in question uses a cloak similar to what the Scimitar used in 2379 to combat this vessel, but it seems to be in the early stages of the development. It has a detectable gravitational presences.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [YELLOW ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD: Does that mean we can track them Commander?

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

LCDR. T'MIR: T'Mir. Theoretically, yes. By detecting the micro-lensing of background stars we can determine an approximate location.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [RED ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD [surprise]: Impressive Commander.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

CPT. BRANSON: Where's the intruder now?

Commander T'Mir taps commands into the science console and reports.

LCDR. T'MIR: He's changed heading, at a very leisurely maneuver. They may not be aware of us.

CPT. BRANSON: How can that be true you've always said that Romulan vessels have sensors that can detect another vessel?

LCDR. T'MIR: It could be due to the power requirement needed for the new cloaking device.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [YELLOW ALERT]

LCDR. BRANSON: So, we can't see them and they can't see us?

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

ENS. CARLSON: Captain, I just ran the course of the object its on a heading of 111 mark 14.

Commander T'Mir turns.

LCDR. T'MIR: An exact course any Romulan vessel would be heading towards the Neutral Zone and home.

Lieutenant Mason leans forward on his console.

LTJG. MASON: Sir, its the Romulans we have to take them out.

CPT. BRANSON: We can't enter the Neutral Zone Lieutenant Starfleet has been clear about that to do so would be an act of war.

LTJG. MASON: They've destroyed four of our outposts already that's not an act of war?

CPT. BRANSON: We attack the Romulans without authorization the Federation will consider us expendable.

FCPT. PICARD [viewer]: We do have one option those we shadow the vessel

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [YELLOW ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD: Follow a parallel course.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

LTJG. MASON: Not an intercept course sir?

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [YELLOW ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD: No, the Captain's right. That would be a declaration of war.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD [viewer]: But if Enterprise and Stargazer match course and speed with the enemy vessel, exactly, move for move

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [YELLOW ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD: They might think we're just a reflection. Echoes on their sensors.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD [viewer]: That way we won't lose them while we wait to hear back from Starfleet

CPT. BRANSON: I like that plan Mister Mason contact Starfleet request permission to engage the Romulans.

LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir.

CPT. BRANSON: Jean-Luc we'll be talking.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [YELLOW ALERT]

FCPT. PICARD: I look forward to it Picard out.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

[TRANSMISSION ENDS] As Captain Branson walks back to the Captain's chair.

CPT. BRANSON: Stand down from red alert.

[LIGHTS BRIGHTEN UP]

LTJG. MASON: Captain, may I respectfully remind the Captain of what has happened here? The Romulans have crossed into the Neutral Zone, attacked our outposts and killed our men.

CPT. BRANSON: Mister Mason.

LTJG. MASON: And to add to the fact that this was a sneak attack! Just 7 years after they helped us defeat the Dominion.

CPT. BRANSON: Mister Mason, are you questioning my orders?

LTJG. MASON: No, sir I never would question an order I am simply pointing out the fact that we could have Romulan spies aboard this ship.

Commander Ro looks at him.

LCDR. RO: I have to agree with Jack on this one sir.

CPT. BRANSON: Very well then go to level 2 security alert.

LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir.

Lieutenant Mason taps commands into the tactical console.

LTJG. MASON: I'm picking up a communication. It's from their ship.

CPT. BRANSON: Let's hear it.

[COM FILLS WITH MORSE CODE]

LTJG. MASON: Its Morse code.

LCDR. T'MIR: I have a fix on it sir. I believe I can lock on it, get a picture of their bridge.

CPT. BRANSON: On screen.

ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]

shows the bridge of the Romulan cruiser a few Romulan soldiers as one leaves his post and salutes a figure, as he turns to reveal a Romulan soldier.

Commander T'Mir is shocked to see her father as Lieutenant Mason looks at her.

EXT. ICARUS SYSTEM, FEDERATION-ROMULAN NEUTRAL ZONE BORDER [OPTICAL]

The Enterprise and Stargazer are next to each other as off in the distant is Icarus comet.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E

There's a long silence and stares at T'Mir as Captain Branson walks over to the tactical console and taps it.

CPT. BRANSON: Decoding?

ENS. SMITH: Cryptography is working on it, sir.

LTJG. MASON: Why not give it to T'Mir.

CPT. BRANSON: I didn't quite hear that Mister Mason.

LTJG. MASON: Nothing, sir.

CPT. BRANSON: Repeat it.

LTJG. MASON: I was only suggesting that Commander T'Mir could probably translate it for you, sir.

CPT. BRANSON: I assume you're complimenting Commander T'Mir on her ability to decode Romulan transmissions?

LTJG. MASON: I'm not sure, sir.

Captain Branson walks over to him.

CPT. BRANSON: Well, here's one thing you can be sure of, Mister leave your bigotry in your quarters, there's no place for it on the bridge. Do I make myself clear?

LTJG. MASON: Yes, sir.

ENS. SMITH: Something, visual ahead, Captain, at extreme range.

ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]

shows the Romulan cruiser un-cloaked.

ENS. SMITH: He's changing course, sir.

CPT. BRANSON: Stay with him helm.

ENS. CARLSON: That was my plan.

EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]

The Imperial-class cruiser is at impulse.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN CRUISER

The Romulans are at their stations as Commander T'Rok sits in the Captain's chair.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: We grow visible. Attend to the cloaking system.

ROMULAN ENGINEER: It consumes too much power, Commander. With no enemy to concern us.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: The Earth Outpost called for two Earth vessels and now their following us!

ROMULAN TACTICAL OFFICER: Which neither retreats nor grows nearer. They turn as we turn. Commander, it is our judgement to run from two reflections?

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: Perhaps so, but my judgement prevails.

ROMULAN ENGINEER: Cloaking system restored sir.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: Engage cloak.

EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]

The Romulan vessel shimmers as it vanished.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

Centurion T'Auethn walks up to him.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: It is good that we approach the Neutral Zone. Not too soon for me to see the stars of home. I know they are following us.

CENTURION T'AUETHN: If it is two Earth ships then why don't they attack?

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: First study the enemy, seek weakness. If I were commanding either vessel that's what I would do.

Then his son shows up.

SUB-LT. T'LOK: You sent for me father?

He looks at his son.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: A message was dispatched. You've broken the rule of silence!

SUB-LT. T'LOK: Only in code father informing the Praetor of our glorious mission.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: Your recklessness might have ended this glorious mission my son! You're reduced two steps in rank return to your post.

CENTURION T'LOK: Yes sir.

T'Lok walks over to one of the consoles angered that he lost his rank that he worked hard to earn.

EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]

The Enterprise and Stargazer are following the vessel.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [YELLOW ALERT]

ENS. CARLSON: They're turning sir. We're staying with them.

ENS. SMITH: Still on 111 mark 14. Back on their original course, Captain, towards the Neutral Zone.

CPT. BRANSON: What's our position helm?

ENS. CARLSON: We'll enter the Neutral Zone in less than an hour, sir. Assuming of course we don't turn back.

[TURBOLIFT DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As Commander James has a piece of debris.

LCDR. JAMES: We've beamed over a piece of debris from the Outpost's hull sir.

John looks at her.

CPT. BRANSON: Mister Mason have Captain Picard beam over me and Ro will greet him don't damage that before he beams aboard senior staff conference room.

INT. TRANSPORTER ROOM 2, USS ENTERPRISE-E [YELLOW ALERT]

[TRANSPORTER BEAM HUMS] As both Captain Jean-Luc Picard former Captain of both the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E beams aboard along with his first officer Lieutenant Commander Sarah Branson daughter of both John and Elizabeth.

CPT. BRANSON: Captain Picard welcome aboard the Enterprise.

FCPT. PICARD [smiles]: Feels good to be back aboard her John seems you've taken good care of her since I gave you command of her, Ro Laren its good to see you again.

LCDR. RO [smiles]: You to Captain.

FCPT. PICARD: This is my first officer Lieutenant Commander Sarah Branson, Sarah this is Lieutenant Commander Ro Laren she served under me for a few years.

LCDR. BRANSON [nods]: Commander Ro, father its good to see you again.

CPT. BRANSON: You too Sarah its been a long time.

Ro's confused.

CUT TO:
INT. OBSERVATION LOUNGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [YELLOW ALERT]

The senior staff along with both Picard and Branson are present as T'Mir gives her report.

LCDR. T'MIR: This is from the Outpost's protective shield. Cast rodinium. This is the hardest substance known to our science.

She crushes it easily as everyone's surprised.

LCDR. T'MIR: Both Ensigns Hansen and Sheridan has theorized an enveloping energy plasma forcing an implosion.

LCDR. RO: Damn.

CPT. BRANSON: Comments?

LTJG. MASON: Even if we ignore the pointed-eared elephant in the room we've got another problem we're going to lose our prey.

ENS. SMITH: The Romulans are still on a bearing to return to the Neutral Zone in less then an hour.

LCDR. T'MIR: For years my people have been wanting to get back to where we were before the Dominion War and the Shinzon coup was their attempt at that lost passion hence why my father sent me and my mother far from Romulus as he could get us.

FCPT. PICARD: I've read the reports from Captain Kirk about this situation if we're facing the same thing then we should be able to defeat them.

CPT. BRANSON: I want to disable the vessel establish a dialog with the Commander of that vessel and hopefully end further bloodshed.

[Sarah scoffs] As the others look at her.

CPT. BRANSON: Is there a problem Commander?

LCDR. BRANSON: Well, let's see you want to make peace with the enemy an enemy that sat back and watched while we struggled to defeat the Dominion. Then all of the sudden they joined the war and we started beating the Dominion back and now this we should blow that vessel out of the sky.

CPT. BRANSON: Starfleet doesn't fire first you know that Sarah.

LTJG. MASON: I agree with her sir we should attack.

CPT. BRANSON: Explain Mister Mason.

LTJG. MASON: Right now the Romulans are on our side of the Zone but that will change if we don't act now.

ENS. CARLSON: Attack, without an visible target? How do we aim our weapons?

LTJG. MASON: We aim with sensors. Not accurate but if we blanket them.

ENS. SMITH: And hope that we get a lucky shot? And hope that they don't zero in on us and the Stargazer?

LTJG. MASON: And if we don't? Once they return to Romulus they'll report back that we saw their weapons and ran.

ENS. SMITH: And if they report back that they took both vessels out?

LTJG. MASON: These are Romulans! You run away you guarantee war! They'll be back not with one ship but with everything they've got.

He looks at T'Mir.

LTJG. MASON: You know that Commander you were part of the Romulan Star Navy before you joined Starfleet.

CPT. BRANSON: Sit down Mister Mason.

Lieutenant Mason sits down.

FCPT. PICARD: John, I think I may of found your solution Commander T'Mir can you enhance that comet.

Commander T'Mir taps commands into the panel.

FCPT. PICARD: Currently the Romulan vessel is heading for the comet's trail. Now I know that their cloaked but as soon as they cross into it, particle distortion will reveal their location.

CPT. BRANSON: We'll be flanking them on either side.

FCPT. PICARD: They'll be pinned in and we'll get a weapons lock.

CPT. BRANSON: Good plan Captain we've got our attack solution let's get ready dismissed.

The senior staff EXITS the observation lounge as John looks at his daughter.

JOHN: Sarah, remain here for awhile.

Sarah turns to face her father.

JOHN: You look great as Picard's first officer.

SARAH: Yeah, he has a knack for damaged goods Commander Ro for example.

JOHN [smiles]: Sarah, look what happened between me and your mother.

SARAH: Save it dad you didn't like that she found someone who would listen to her and be there for her you were too busy working too busy to listen to her.

JOHN: I was working for the family Sarah not just for me but you, Tina, and your mother.

SARAH: And then you left!

JOHN: Because I didn't want to cause an interstellar incident between the Federation and the Andorians.

SARAH: I better get back to the Stargazer.

Sarah EXITS the observation lounge as John stands there.

EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]

Both the Enterprise and Stargazer approaches the comet.

CPT. BRANSON'S [voice over]: Captain's log stardate 51709.2, Per Captain Picard's plan we are mounting a pincer maneuver. Our two ships with slowly drift closer as the Romulans remain unaware. When they pass through the comets trail giving us their exact location, we will be in weapons range. Picard, however, has agreed to my plan of disabling the vessel in hopes of establishing a dialog

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [YELLOW ALERT]

Captain Branson sits in the Captain's chair.

CPT. BRANSON'S [voice over, continuing]: I just wish that me and Sarah could speak on friendly terms instead of hostile towards each other, she must know that I made a good choice not to attack the Andorian Ambassador. I just hope one day she sees that I made the best choice for the Federation

CPT. BRANSON: Ensign Carlson maintain course and speed but be ready.

ENS. CARLSON: I've got my foot on the gas just in case.

The Stargazer drifts as explosions erupt from the damaged forward section.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS STARGAZER [RED ALERT]

The crew gets up from the deck as Commander Branson crawls to Captain Picard and sees that he's badly injured.

LCDR. BRANSON: Captain? Medical team deck one, main bridge its Captain Picard he's badly wounded and in need of medical attention.

DR. CRUSHER [com voice]: We're on our way Commander it may take sometime

LCDR. BRANSON: Damage report!

LCDR. KADOHATA: We've got breaches along the forward section emergency force fields are in place and holding.

LTJG. URTERN: Tactical systems are offline!

LCDR. BRANSON: Fire phasers Captain!

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Sarah, we're out of range. We're just as likely to hit you as well.

LCDR. BRANSON [com voice]: Maybe you can draw their fire

CPT. BRANSON: Jack, full phasers now!

LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir.

EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]

The Enterprise comes about and fires a barrage of phaser fire at the Romulan cruiser as it flies by the damaged Stargazer, a phaser beam struck the port side of the cruiser.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

[BOOM!] As sparks erupt from ceiling as T'Auethn sees a piece of support beam about the fall on T'Rok he moves him out of the way as the beam falls on top of him.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: ARM THE PLASMA TORPEDO DESTROY THEM!

ROMULAN TACTICAL OFFICER: Commander, at this distances the weapon won't be as effective as it was against the Federation outpost.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: JUST DO IT!

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

LTJG. MASON: Holy...We actually clipped them.

CPT. BRANSON: Nice shot Jack. Julia, hail them. I want them to focus on us.

ENS. SMITH: Aye, sir.

CPT. BRANSON: Keep firing.

LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir.

Commander T'Mir turns from her science console.

LCDR. T'MIR: Detecting increased power generation from their forward launcher they're preparing to fire their plasma torpedo!

Captain Branson walks back to the Captain's chair.

CPT. BRANSON: Full power to shields, brace for impact!

Everyone braces themselves.

EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]

The torpedo struck the forward shields of the Enterprise as green energy course through the shields.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

[BOOM!] Huge shower of sparks erupt from the ceiling and Master Display screen.

CPT. BRANSON: Report!

LTJG. MASON: Forward shields are down to 78%! We've lost weapons!

ENS. SMITH: Damage to decks 6,7, and nine!

LCDR. RO: That should of destroyed us how are we still standing?

LCDR. T'MIR: They were shooting from a distance. Perhaps their plasma weapon still has the power issue.

LCDR. RO: Greater the distance less the damage?

CPT. BRANSON: Status on Stargazer?

ENS. SMITH: Critical they'll lose life support inside of 5 minutes.

ENS. CARLSON: I can get us there in 30 seconds.

CPT. BRANSON: Ro, you've got the bridge. Branson to transporter room get the pads warmed up Mac we're about to test their upper limits.

CUT TO:
INT. TRANSPORTER ROOM 2, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

[TRANSPORTER ROOM 2 DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As John enters as we see a medical team help Picard onto a stretcher as Doctor Carlson scans him.

DR. CARLSON [re: Medical tricorder]: Bruised left kidney, punctured lung we need to get him to sickbay move!

They rush out the door as Crusher follows.

SARAH: He took a bad fall when the torpedo struck.

JOHN: He'll be all right Sarah, Steven's the best CMO in the fleet.

[COM CHIRPS] As Commander Ro comes over the com.

LCDR. RO [com voice]: Captain Branson report to the bridge

CUT TO:
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

[TURBOLIFT DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As John and Sarah walks onto the bridge.

CPT. BRANSON: Report Ro.

LCDR. RO: T'Mir, just did a scan of the enemy vessel.

LCDR. T'MIR: Before they cloaked I was able to scan them it seems our phaser fire damaged their power supply. They're trailing plasma. I don't think they have enough power to make it back to Romulus.

CPT. BRANSON: Do we know their course?

LCDR. T'MIR: Yes back on course for my former homeworld.

CPT. BRANSON: Kara?

ENS. CARLSON: We're following them still sir.

CPT. BRANSON: Mister Mason, what's our weapons status?

LTJG. MASON: Our phasers are still out but we've got torpedoes still.

CPT. BRANSON: Ready a spread of torpedoes but hold for my order.

LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir. Torpedoes ready and holding.

CPT. BRANSON: Hail them.

LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir.

Captain Branson walks to the viewer.

LCDR. BRANSON [confused]: What are you doing?

John turns to Sarah.

CPT. BRANSON: Taking a risk.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

ROMULAN COM OFFICER: Sir, we're being hailed by the Earth vessel audio only.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: Let's hear it.

CPT. BRANSON [com voice]: Attention Romulan vessel this is John Branson Captain of the Federation starship USS Enterprise, for over a 100 years our people have been at war. Long enough to ignore it but after we worked together to stop the Dominion from taking over the entire Alpha and Beta Quadrants, we were working together for the first time in over a century not just as races wanting to survive but as allies

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

CPT. BRANSON [to com]: I propose a temporary cease-fire so that we may have a chance to try again to be allies maybe members of the Federation one day I await your response.

He turns to Jack and does the throat slashing gesture as Lieutenant Mason cuts transmission.

LCDR. BRANSON: Okay. That was...unexpected.

CPT. BRANSON: They want to destroy us, but they also want to get back home. Knowing what your opponent wants is key to a successful negotiation.

LCDR. BRANSON: Assuming the Romulans will respond.

CUT TO:
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

ROMULAN COM OFFICER: What are your orders Commander? Do we respond?

Commander T'Rok has a cloth as he's dapping his friend's forehead.

CENTURION T'AUETHN [groans, winces]: Don't let our people suffer any longer T'Rok answer the Federation's call for a cease fire.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: Open a hailing frequency with the Enterprise my son attend to the Centurion.

CENTURION T'LOK: Yes, father.

T'Lok sits next to T'Auethn as T'Rok walks up to the viewer.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

[COM CHIRPS] As Lieutenant Mason reports.

LTJG. MASON: Captain, we're being hailed by the Romulan vessel.

CPT. BRANSON: Looks like we're about to find out Commander on screen Mister Mason.

Lieutenant Mason taps commands into the tactical console.

CUT TO:
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

SUB-CDR. T'LOK: Captain Branson, it is good to make your acquaintance.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

Everyone is tensed up.

CPT. BRANSON: Commander, I know that you're responsible for what has happened to our bases along the Zone. But I also know that your vessel is damaged.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]

shows the bridge of the Enterprise and Captain Branson.

CPT. BRANSON [viewer]: But I also know that you and I have been paying for a war that's been going on long before you and I were ever born. I think its time we look at the cost of the bill

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

CPT. BRANSON: Now we can blow each other up with what little power both our vessels still have or we can work towards lasting peace between our two peoples and maybe one day Romulus could seek Federation membership.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK [viewer]: It is true that we allied against the Dominion and Shinzon, Captain, but in our culture your words are a show of weakness

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: What chance a dialog would offer, save to delay me? Why should I listen to you?

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

CPT. BRANSON: You're right what words of a mere human have to offer? But maybe words from your own flesh and blood might work.

Commander T'Mir walks up next to him.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK [viewer]: T-T'Mir, they said that you were dead? Your vessel was destroyed in orbit of Babel?

LCDR. T'MIR: It was father but this human saved my life and the lives of my crew they're safe but I remained aboard the Enterprise to learn about them and they're not as untrustworthy as grandfather taught you.

CPT. BRANSON: Commander both our vessels are damaged your cloak is unstable what I propose is a 2 hour cease fire long enough to repair our vessels and bury the dead, and maybe this could lead to a peace between our two races.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

Commander T'Rok thinks.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: 2 hours. And Captain thank you for saving my daughter.

INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]

Captain Branson nods as transmission ends and T'Mir walks back to the science station as Lieutenant Mason voices his concern.

LTJG. MASON: Captain, these are Romulans they can't be trusted. They shot Stargazer right in front of us.

CPT. BRANSON: Stand down Jack.

He pushes.

LTJG. MASON: You can't let them get away with that!

CPT. BRANSON: STAND DOWN!

LTJG. MASON: Yes, sir.

ENS. SMITH: Sensor scans suggest that the Romulans have stop all forward movements.

LCDR. BRANSON: I wonder what their doing?

CPT. BRANSON: Probably the same thing we are.

CUT TO:
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, ROMULAN VESSEL

Everyone is working to restore engines and cloak.

CENTURION T'LOK: A cease-fire with the enemy? This is Federation weakness father. They're so desperate for allies since the Dominion almost wiped them and those honorless Klingons off the galaxy map they'll do anything to save themselves from destruction at our hands!

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: We are in a cease-fire T'Lok. Put all hands to repairing engines or we'll never make it back to Romulus for your wedding.

CENTURION T'LOK: Father, how do you know that T'Mir wasn't forced to join that crew by the Federation?

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: Because she showed no sign of torture or bruises other then her pride of losing her ship. My son I understand you want to go back to the golden era of the Star Empire but we're at a crossroads after the coup by Shinzon and his forces we're trying to recover but we can't do it alone we need help. I don't know what kind of peace game this Captain Branson is playing but I want to see it through for our peoples sake.

CENTURION T'LOK: And if it doesn't work?

T'Rok looks at his son.

SUB-CDR. T'ROK: Then you'll have your war.

Just as he's walking away he's shot in the back by his son and vaporized as the entire crew is shocked as T'Autehn looks at him as he winces in pain as he sits up.

CENTURION T'AUTEHN [shocked]: What have you done T'Lok?

He looks over at T'Autehn as he aims his disruptor at him.

CDR. T'LOK: Anything I have to in order to keep our people out of Federation hands.

He fires his disruptor and T'Autehn is vaporized as he screams.

CDR. T'LOK: Work on restoring weapons and cloaking device or you'll join those traitors engineer modify our cloak to prevent those Federation weaklings from detecting us.

ROMULAN ENGINEER: Yes, sir.

The crew gets to work as T'Lok sits in the Captain's chair.

LCDR. T'MIR: I've not betrayed our people T'Lok its you who has betrayed our family!
