EXT. ARCHANIS SYSTEM/ARCHANIS IV ORBIT [OPTICAL]
An establishing shot of Starbase 9 a Sigma-class starbase is orbiting Archanis IV as several cargo and transport vessels are flanking the base, as we see two Nebula-class ships orbiting the planet.
DR. ANNE CLARKSON'S [voice over]: Doctor Clarkson's log stardate 53894.4, It has been a few days since me and Robert have been here at Archanis IV restoring it after the Federation-Klingon war in 2372, thanks to the efforts of both Federation President Danielle Branson and Klingon Chancellor Martok both parties have agreed to share the planet to prevent further issues
INT. FEDERATION COLONY - DAY [OPTICAL]
An establishing shot of the Federation colony as its buzzing with life, as we see Doctor Anne Clarkson holding a PADD sending a letter to both her kids.
ANNE [re: PADD]: I hope that we can see you both as soon as we're done here love you both.
She sends the message to both Kyle and Anna as Robert walks over to her.
ROBERT: How did it go?
ANNE [sighs]: I spent an hour arguing with the colony leader about increasing our defenses to more then just two ships, but he tells me that Starfleet isn't at the pre-Dominion War levels to assign anymore ships here.
ROBERT: Were you just sending a letter to both Anna and Kyle?
ANNE [nods]: Yeah, just wished he'd understand why we did what we did.
ROBERT: Anne, he was 12 years old when we left him with T'Ver it'll be awhile before he'll be able to understand but you're rushing it too much if you keep it up he'll keep pulling away.
Anne looks at him.
ANNE [sighs]: I just wish I could speak to him face to face and explain it to him.
ROBERT: I know me to. He was my buddy we did everything together when he was growing up.
ANNE [laughs]: Yeah, that's true he looked up to you.
Then they hear a booming sound.
ANNE: What's that sound?
ROBERT [confused]: I'm not sure.
They look up and see an approaching Negh'Var class ship as they've got the look of fear on their faces.

[EPISODE NOTES: OPENING CREDITS FALL OVER OPENING SCENES]
The Enterprise travels to Starbase 211.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
The crew are at their stations.
CPT. BRANSON: Ensign, what's our ETA to Starbase 211?
Ensign Carlson taps commands into the helm and reports.
ENS. CARLSON: At current speed we'll arrive at Starbase 211 in a few hours.
Captain Branson turns to Lieutenant Mason.
CPT. BRANSON: Inform 211 of our ETA.
LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir.
Lieutenant Mason taps commands into the tactical console.
LCDR. RO: Have you ever been to 211?
CPT. BRANSON: Only during the war but other then that it'll be my first time being there not during a war.
[COM CHIRPS] As Lieutenant Mason checks the console read out.
LTJG. MASON: Captain, we're being hailed by Starfleet Command its Fleet Admiral Barnes.
CPT. BRANSON: on screen.
LTJG. MASON: He's requesting a private channel.
John looks over at Ro.
CPT. BRANSON: Very well transfer it to my ready room.
LTJG. MASON: Aye, sir.
Captain Branson gets up from the Captain's chair and walks to the ready room.
CUT TO:
INT. CAPTAIN'S READY ROOM, USS ENTERPRISE-E
Captain Branson walks to the desk.
CPT. BRANSON: Admiral Barnes?
FADM. BARNES [monitor]: Something has happened at Archanis
John looks at the monitor.
EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise is at station keeping.
INT. OBSERVATION LOUNGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
[OBSERVATION LOUNGE DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As Commander James enters.
LCDR. JAMES: What's going on?
LTJG. MASON: We're not sure but the Captain wanted us in here.
LCDR. JAMES: Does anyone know what's going on?
ENS. SMITH: He's been talking to Fleet Admiral Barnes this is the fourth communique in the last few hours.
LCDR. RO: Whatever it is it can't be good.
[OBSERVATION LOUNGE DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As Captain Branson enters as the senior staff gets up from the table as Captain Branson looks at them.
CPT. BRANSON: Archanis IV has been attacked.
LCDR. JAMES [shocked]: Attacked?
CPT. BRANSON: A fleet of Klingon warships showed up from out of nowhere.
LCDR. RO: Why would the Klingons do this?
CPT. BRANSON: We're not sure Ambassador Worf is trying to figure it out himself.
[COM CHIRPS] As an officer comes over the com.
BRIDGE OFFICER [com voice]: Bridge to Captain Branson
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Branson here.
BRIDGE OFFICER [com voice]: It's Fleet Admiral Barnes sir
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Understood. Kara set course for Archanis IV warp seven.
EXT. SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise comes into a great arc and her engines power up and shoots off into the distance into a burst of light.
INT. CAPTAIN'S READY ROOM, USS ENTERPRISE-E
Captain Branson sits behind the desk.
ANNA [monitor]: What sort of attack?
JOHN: We're not sure what it was but we're proceeding to the edge of the system to rendezvous with a Federation taskforce.
ANNE [monitor]: Please John they're all me and Kyle have left other then T'Ver
JOHN: I will Anne don't worry.
[TRANSMISSION ENDS] As John leans back in the chair.
EXT. EDGE OF ARCHANIS SYSTEM [OPTICAL]
A burst of light as the Enterprise exits warp and approaches the Federation taskforce being led by the USS Stargazer.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]
shows the battlegroup.
LTJG. MASON: We're being hailed by the Stargazer.
CPT. BRANSON: On screen.
ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]
shows the bridge of the Stargazer.
CPT. BRANSON: Fleet Captain Picard.
FCPT. PICARD [viewer]: Its good that Starfleet dispatched the Enterprise to provide assistance to the fleet
CPT. BRANSON: This is too important for us to be sitting on the sidelines sir.
FCPT. PICARD [viewer]: The fleet will proceed to Archanis IV and asset the situation and if we have to engage the Klingons we will, Ambassador Worf has assured me that the Klingons aren't responsible but he can't be sure who did it using Klingon warships to frame them
CPT. BRANSON: Yes, sir.
EXT. EDGE OF THE ARCHANIS IV [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise is in the lead of the fleet as each ship's warp engines power up and they shoot off into the distance into several bursts of light.

EXT. WARP SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Federation taskforce travels to Archanis IV.
INT. LIVING ROOM AREA/CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS, USS ENTERPRISE-E
John gets ready to go on duty.
[COM CHIRPS] As Commander Ro comes over the com.
LCDR. RO [com voice]: Ro to Branson
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Branson here go ahead.
LCDR. RO[com voice]: Captain, we're receiving a hail from Captain Towe
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Route it to my quarters.
John sits behind the desk and activates the desktop monitor.
JOHN [smiles]: Jamie, its good to see you again.
ANGLE - DESKTOP MONITOR [OPTICAL]
shows the ready room of Captain Towe aboard the USS Harrison-A.
JAMIE [monitor]: Same to you John if I didn't say thank you enough I want to thank you for saving me and my crew
JOHN [smiles]: Its my pleasure as always Jamie.
JAMIE [monitor]: I was just contacted by Anne informing me that Archanis IV was just attacked?
CPT. BRANSON: Yes it was.
JAMIE [monitor]: Isn't that were their parents are at right now helping them restore their colony after the Federation-Klingon war in 2372?
JOHN: Yes, they're restoring the colony to what it was before the Klingons broke away from the treaty.
JAMIE [monitor]: I'll inform Kyle but I don't know what that will do he's still mad at them for what they did
JOHN: Its been several years since that day he's got to let it go or it'll eat him alive.
JAMIE [monitor]: I'll try to talk to him Towe out
[TRANSMISSION ENDS] As John thinks.
EXT. WARP SPACE [OPTICAL]
The taskforce travels at warp in formation.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
Ensign Carlson reports.
ENS. CARLSON: We're approaching Archanis IV.
CPT. BRANSON: Red alert, shields up!
[KLAXONS BLARE] As the crew heads to their battle stations.
LCDR. RO: If its not the Klingons then what will we do?
CPT. BRANSON: Anything and everything to defend Archanis IV Ro take us out of warp Ensign.
Ensign Carlson taps commands into the helm station.
EXT. ARCHANIS SYSTEM, ARCHANIS IV ORBIT [OPTICAL]
The taskforce drops out of warp one at a time as debris floats by the taskforce.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E [RED ALERT]
Captain Branson slowly gets up from the Captain's chair.
CPT. BRANSON [shocked]: Oh my god.
ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]
shows the planet and its current condition.
Ensign Smith taps commands into the ops console.
ENS. SMITH: Sensors show no survivors in orbit of the planet sir.
CPT. BRANSON: What about on the surface?
She checks her console read out and reports.
ENS. SMITH: I am unable to get a clear reading on the surface due to intense interference from storms that are surging.
Captain Branson walks down to the viewer.
ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]
shows the planet as fires are plumping from where the colony is located at.
CPT. BRANSON: Can we use the transporter?
LCDR. JAMES: I wouldn't recommend it sir those storms are intense they could scramble anyone who beams down.
CPT. BRANSON: Away team report to main shuttlebay, Kara you're driving, Ro you've got the bridge have Doctor Carlson and a medical team meet us in the main shuttlebay on the double.
Ro turns to him.
LCDR. RO: Captain, may I remind you of Starfleet regulations concerning away teams?
CPT. BRANSON: I understand those regulations Ro but this is personal Kyle and Anne's parents are down there if anyone has to go down there it should be me.
LCDR. RO: All right, just be careful.
John nods as he joins Mason, Carlson, and T'Mir in the turbolift.
EXT. ARCHANIS SYSTEM/ARCHANIS IV ORBIT [OPTICAL]
A shot of the main shuttle bay doors opening as a type-11 shuttle exits the bay and heads towards the planet.
INT. COCKPIT, KATE KENNARD
Captain Branson and Ensign Carlson are at the forward consoles as Lieutenant Mason and Commander T'Mir are sitting at the side consoles as Doctor Carlson and his medical team are bracing themselves as the shuttle's being buffered about by the intense wind shears.
DR. CARLSON: What are you doing Kara?
ENS. CARLSON: Trying to find an easy way to navigate the shuttle to the surface.
[BOOM!] As everyone braces themselves.
ENS. CARLSON: See, that was easy.
LCDR. T'MIR: Sensors are detecting some survivors but not many.
Captain Branson turns to her.
CPT. BRANSON: Any human or Klingon?
She checks her readings.
LCDR. T'MIR: Can't tell but it is possible.
CPT. BRANSON: Set us down in front of the main building.
ENS. CARLSON: Aye, sir.
EXT. MAIN COLONY, ARCHANIS IV SURFACE - DAY [OPTICAL]
The Kate Kennard lands in front of what's left of the main colony building.
[AFT SHUTTLE DOORS OPENED] As the away team exits the shuttle.
DR. CARLSON [re: medical tricorder]: I was able to download the sensor readings from the shuttles sensors survivors are to the west and east of our position.
CPT. BRANSON: Take your team to the east Jack you and T'Mir head west I'll head towards the Clarksons colony house com me if you find them in either of your locations.
LTJG. MASON: Yes, sir.
LCDR. T'MIR: Aye, sir.
DR. CARLSON: Yes, sir.
They move out.
[BLACKOUT, END OF ACT 2]
Act 3[]

EXT. ARCHANIS SYSTEM/ARCHANIS IV ORBIT [OPTICAL]
The Federation taskforce orbits the planet above where the colony is at when a squadron of Klingon warships being led by the IKS Negh'Var approaches the Enterprise from behind.
INT. MAIN BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE-E
ENS. SMITH: We're being hailed by the Negh'Var its General Worf.
LCDR. RO: On screen.
ANGLE - TRANSPARENT VIEWER [OPTICAL]
shows the bridge of the IKS Negh'Var and General Worf sitting in the Captain's chair.
GEN. WORF [viewer]: Commander Ro, its very good to see you again.
LCDR. RO: You too Worf I see that being a General has done well for you?
GEN. WORF [viewer]: It was just a temporary promotion for now Chancellor Martok is taking the Rotarran to Earth to discuss this situation with Starfleet Command and the Federation Council, I hope that we can determine who would frame the Empire and why
Ensign Smith turns to Commander Ro.
ENS. SMITH: Ma'am, I think I may have a clue I was reviewing the sensor readings we took and the outpost was attacked by a Klingon vessel but its not from any know Klingon warships within the Empire.
LCDR. RO: Explain.
ENS. SMITH: Here's a crest from the House of Martok on the Negh'Var's port wing and here's the crest of a KLingon vessel that was destroyed by the Salazar its from the House of Duras.
LCDR. RO [surprised]: House of Duras? Weren't they disgraced after they lost the Klingon Civil War?
GEN. WORF [viewer]: Yes they were and the Duras Sisters were killed at Veridan III by Captain Riker
LCDR. RO: Take us to yellow alert keep an eye out for any House of Duras cruisers.
[YELLOW LIGHTS START FLASHING] As Commander Ro tenses up.
EXT. MAIN COLONY, ARCHANIS IV SURFACE - DAY [OPTICAL]
Captain Branson moves towards the Clarkson's colony house.
[COM CHIRPS] As Doctor Carlson comes over the com.
DR. CARLSON [com voice]: Carlson to Branson
John tapped his combadge.
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Branson here go ahead Doc.
DR. CARLSON [com voice]: Me and my medical team has discovered at least 23 survivors but so far no sign of the Clarksons
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Acknowledged Steven get those survivors to the shuttle and back up to the ship.
DR. CARLSON [com voice]: Aye, sir
John ends the com call as he continues towards the Clarkson's colony home.
CPT. BRANSON [to himself]: Where's their house?
John continues to look for it then he finds it as he runs into Jessica again.
CPT. BRANSON [surprised]: Jessica?
CPT. SMITH [surprised]: Hey John.
CPT. BRANSON: Anything?
CPT. SMITH: Negative, but it could be interference.
They both walk up to the door and John tosses a flashbang and it goes off as they both enter the room with their type-2 phasers out ready for action as they see dead Klingon warriors littered in the main hallway as they search for both Robert and Anna.
CPT. SMITH: John.
Captain Branson walks over to where Jessica is at and sees Robert bloody with a particle rifle next to him along with several Klingon warriors laying on the ground dead, John checks his pulse.
CPT. BRANSON [sighs]: He's dead.
CPT. SMITH: And I've found Mrs. Clarkson and its bad John.
John enters the room and is distraught at what he sees as Anna is slumped over the console bloody with a Bat'leth in her back.
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Branson to Carlson we found the Clarksons their dead.
DR. CARLSON [com voice]: Acknowledged
John has a sad look on his face.
[BLACKOUT, END OF ACT THREE]
Act 4[]
FADE IN
EXT. WARP SPACE [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise travels to Earth.
INT. CAPTAIN'S READY ROOM, USS ENTERPRISE-E
Captain Branson sits in the chair behind the desk thinking.
[COM CHIRPS] As Commander Ro comes over the com.
LCDR. RO [com voice]: Ro to Branson we're receiving a transmission from both Anna Clarkson and Kyle Clarkson
CPT. BRANSON [to com]: Route it to my ready room.
ANGLE - MONITOR [OPTICAL]
shows both Anna and Kyle.
CPT. BRANSON: Thank you guys for taking my call.
KYLE [monitor]: It wasn't by choice
ANNA [monitor]: Did you find our parents John?
John leans forward.
JOHN [sighs]: We did find your parents but they're dead it was brutal they were stabbed several times, your father didn't go down without a fight. He had a particle rifle next to him and your mother I don't even want to say it because of how bad it was for her we found her slumped in front of a console trying to contact the ships in orbit and we found her distress signal.
Anna is tearing up as her husband Bud is next to her to comfort her as Kyle has barely any reaction to John's explanation of what he found.
JOHN: General Worf has already confirmed that it wasn't from any of Martok's forces so we're guessing that its a rouge Klingon faction that doesn't like the alliance between the Federation and Klingon Empire.
ANNE [monitor]: The only rogue faction that doesn't like it is the House of Duras
KYLE [monitor]: It would be illogical to assume that because they've been dishonored by Duras and his sisters they lost their place on the High council and their lands were seized by other Klingon houses. So I don't think its them it has to be someone from Martok's forces
JOHN: I don't think so because if it was they would of started shooting at the taskforce as soon as they entered the system.
BUD [monitor]: You know Kyle I wished you show just a bit more emotions you and Anne just lost your parents!
KYLE [monitor]: Tell that to me when I was 12 years old Bud they left me at Arcamon! When I didn't even want to stay there I wanted to go with them and help them restore different colonies that were stricken by the Dominion War and the Federation-Klingon war that Sisko shouldn't of stopped we would of won that war!
ANNE [monitor]: Kyle, you would of been dead if you were on Archanis with them and I am not losing my brother to any of our enemies
John's taken aback by this reaction from Kyle as Anne compose herself.
ANNE [monitor]: Thank you John I'll be at the funeral when the Enterprise arrives
JOHN: See you soon.
[TRANSMISSION ENDS] As John looks at the monitor still with Kyle's image.
JOHN: Kyle?
Kyle's facial expression hasn't changed making it hard to gauge his emotions.
KYLE [monitor]: John, my parents left me on Arcamon when I was 12 years old I never wanted to stay there I wanted to go with them but they. They wouldn't listen to me they just left me with the Vulcans, even when I didn't want to stay with them
JOHN: They must of had a reason to do that man? You can't be mad at them over that they loved you so much along with Anne.
Kyle hangs his head.
KYLE [monitor]: I don't expect you to understand
[TRANSMISSION ENDS] As John sits at his desk thinking.
EXT. EARTH ORBIT, SOL SYSTEM [OPTICAL]
The Enterprise is docked at the Federation Dockyards as shuttles and cargo vessels flyby.
INT. MAIN CARGO BAY, USS ENTERPRISE-E
[MAIN CARGO BAY DOORS WHOOSHED OPENED] As John enters seeing the coffins of the deceased colonists and sees both Kyle and Anne facing the two coffins holding their parents.
JOHN: If you two want I can give you time to say goodbye.
ANNE: No, John you're family friend you're welcomed to stay.
Kyle leans on the bulkhead with his arms crossed.
ANNE [saddened]: Why didn't you guys get off the planet in time? How can both me and Kyle move on from your deaths?
KYLE [scoffs]: Anne come on they never cared about me.
She turns to her brother.
ANNE: Kyle, yes they did they cared deeply about you but you just kept pushing them away.
KYLE: Because they left me with the Vulcans when I kept asking to go with them to help I never wanted to stay with the Vulcans but they wouldn't listen to me. And they never called to check up on me they always called you not me their son.
ANNE: Each time they did you kept rejecting their calls saying that you're too busy or not in the mood to talk to them.
An awkward and deafening silence fills the cargo bay as John stands there.
JOHN: Uh, the funeral is at 1400 hours.
John EXITS the cargo bay.
CUT TO:
EXT. CEMETERY GROUNDS, EARTH SURFACE - DAY [OPTICAL]
Everyone is present at the ceremony.
FADM. BARNES: We're all gathered here today to pay respect to those who were lost at Archanis IV due to this terrible assault by at the hands of the Klingons, the high council has informed me that they're looking into this attack. But I don't believe them we'll pay them back for this assault on our colony one way or another.
After the ceremony Doctor T'Ver walks over to both John and Jessica.
DR. T'VER: Captain Branson, Captain Smith I'm Doctor T'Ver it is agreeable to meet two of Kyle's friends.
JOHN: It is an honor to meet you Doctor T'Ver.
They look over as Kyle walks to the two gravestones.
JESSICA: It must be hard for him to lose both his parents without even getting an explanation as to why he was left with T'Ver.
T'VER: When he was brought to me by his parents he was a difficult kid but once I helped him control his emotions he is a bit more humble.
JOHN [sighs]: His emotions are hard to gauge sometimes.
Kyle kneels in front of the two gravestones.
[BLACKOUT, END OF ACT FOUR, END CREDITS]
