USS Phoenix was a Federation starship, a Columbia-class vessel in service to the UESPA branch of Starfleet in the 2160s decade. With the USS Valiant, Phoenix formed the fourth pair of starships built to Columbia-class specifications from scratch.
History and specifications[]
Phoenix was constructed under the supervision of Admiral Alexis Osman of the Alpha Centauri Space Research Council, and Commodore W. M. Jefferies of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers as part of a new wave of Columbia-class starships. Grennex Aerospace, a Rigelian shipbuilding firm, had been contracted to provide upgraded impulse engine assemblies and navigational deflector arrays for the new Columbia-class ships.
On July 8, 2165, Captain Marcus Williams conveyed Admiral Osman's progress report to UESPA chief of staff Admiral Jonathan Archer. The report indicated that Phoenix and Valiant would be ready to launch within two years.
