- "As well as being unstable politically, our planet was even more unstable geologically. In a final desperate act, the Insectoids and Reptilians detonated massive explosions beneath the eight largest seismic fissures. I'd like to think they didn't realize how devastating the result would be."
- — Gralik Durr, 2153
Xindus was a planet formerly existing somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant. It was an inhabited planet in the Delphic Expanse and the homeworld of the Xindi. It was the only planet in its solar system.
History[]
Xindus was the homeworld of the six sentient species of the Xindi civilization, until the planet was destroyed in the 2030s decade. (ENT episodes: "The Xindi", "The Shipment")
The planet was geologically unstable and was destroyed in the 2033 when, at the height of the Xindi Civil War, the Reptilians and Insectoids detonated large weapons beneath the eight largest seismic fissures of the planet. While five of the Xindi species escaped this destruction, the Xindi-Avians did not flee the planet and were wiped out. The five surviving species spread out across the Expanse, settling on various planets. (ENT episode: "The Shipment")
In 2153, the Enterprise (NX-01) discovered an asteroid field nearly 80 million kilometers long orbiting a yellow-orange star. This was what remained of Xindus. (ENT episodes: "The Xindi", "Azati Prime")
- Although the remains of this planet appear as early as third season opener "The Xindi", the planet wasn't named until the third last episode of that season, The Council. In the script of "The Xindi", the debris from Xindus is described as "a vast, cigar-shaped debris field stretching in a partial around [a] star."
Alternate timeline[]
In an alternate timeline created by the temporal anomaly crisis in the early 2380s decade, Xindus was restored to existence, sharing its orbit with the remains of the original Xindus. The Xindi resettled the planet, and the Dominion members stranded in local space allied with the Xindi. Xindus became the faction center of the Dominion. Its affiliation with the Federation was contentious, and the world was a target for anti-Dominion factions, like the Hirogen, and rogue Jem'Hadar. (ST video game: Star Trek Timelines)
