Taitt was born on Tau Ceti IV in 2348. At Imperial Starfleet Academy she wrote her senior year thesis on Solar Dynamics. She graduated in 2370 and earned a prestigious posting as a science officer to the ISS Victory.

Six weeks into her commission, during an encounter with a faction of non-Collective Borg led by Lore, Ensign Taitt manned the tactical station under the command of Captain Phillipa Louvois. She hesitantly held her post, and under orders, established a frequency shift firing pattern on a Borg starship.
When relieved of her position at tactical by Lieutenant Albert Barnaby, Louvois asked that she stay on the bridge at the science station.
When Captain Louvois took the Victory, protected by metaphasic shielding, into a local star, it was Taitt's observations and expertise in Solar Dynamics that allowed her to use the ship's phasers to trigger a solar flare, destroying the Borg. Louvois christened the move the "Taitt Maneuver".
